President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Wow, 48+ hours to get the first bus to NO. Did it come from Canada? How many school busses have been sitting in their school district yards in upstate LA?

Al Davis proved that the NFL can do nothing about a team moving where it wants. LA will not get a team because they have made it very clear that they will not build a stadium free of charge. That is the price to get an NFL team these days unfortunately.

I am sorry to be so blunt, but that's about the most ignorant thing I have heard in the longest time. Shep is most likely gay. And darn good at his job.

"Jeff Goldblatt is reporting that some of the people wandering aound where he is have come from the Superdome because they don't ant to go to the Asrodome. Do they not realize that there is NOWHERE to go buy AWAY?"

They do not stop to think that their decision to stay will place a burden on those who are trying to clean up this mess.

No, but as many people as did not evac, I tend to believe they missed a lot of folks. You simply can't warn everybody with the bullhorn.

I am going to repost this comment that I made elsewhere, and it deals with the sudden blame game(And I am not a Bush Bot):

The only mistake GW made during this was that he did not publicize what a bunch of incompetent idiots were running the state of Louisiana, and the city of NO. He should have done that while he was twisting there arms to evacuate. If the federal government had not twisted the arms of these people to evacuate the city as this hurricane was coming then many more people would have died. It just perturbs me that the Smucks of this world can shift the blame away from themselves and pile it on the ones that really tried to help. And the media will buy into it every time. The truth is recorded in history. All of the posts on the hurricane threads here on FR and several other forums are all the proof anyone needs for the truth. They were recorded in real time and will always represent the truth as it happened.

This is the same mayor that said he couldn't order a mandatory evacuation on Saturday without checking with the legal folks so anything out of him would not surprise me.

I thought it was the Governor as well but in LA all bets are off!

I agree with you, but you missed my point (basically a political one) which was about one segment of the population that every town has and how the looting in NO will just strengthen their resolve in the future to stay behind and fight for what is theirs in a crisis situation no matter the danger if the leadership is weak (dem).

Okay. I agree with that about Al. I just sense that things have changed with the NFL regards owners moving about unrestricted. Money is always a factor, but New Orleans is done as a major market. I suppose if San Antonio can throw enough money at the NFL they might allow it. Just can't see them getting past the NFL and outbidding LA however much they come up with.
