President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Im not saying it was wrong or right but giving one million plus? to all the widows of 9/11 set a precedent and everyone in NO will want some of that "free" money.
YEA CALIFORNIA!!!!!
WDSU- Looters even attacking ambulances
I've been asked a question by my studio audience:
How many died in the tsunami?
KCAL9 reported that the busses started leaving the Superdome under secrecy to avoid a stampede....
TURN ON CNN - Live interviews at the Astro Dome
d an email from Billy Martin upthread that describes the situation better than I could.
Those Coast Guard pilots have been awesome. I finally went with local coverage to see more of the rescues. Glad to hear it about your son.
One of the rescue helicopters was going from house to house with someone being lowered to check to see if anyone was there. It was AWESOME.
Some of the MSM has been complaining about lack of military support along with a few Freepers so I started posting my email I keep getting tonight from AF sources along with one from the Army. :)

Can you tell us what is on CNN?
If all as good as the team at Dyess you can bet they are.
Now hearing them going north to the Tuscola VOR and heading southeast to LA.
Making "flip flops" to the disaster area.
Seems like a constant drone of aircraft overhead.
There is absolutly nothing that sounds as good as "Government Aviation Engines"
This is wrong. I hope other shelters / families in the state can take these people.
My family has been through a tornado where they survived with their lives but lost their home..I pray for all who have lost a home , lost loved ones, and worry because they have not heard from loved ones in the affected areas.
It's moot, I think. There's no city to be mayor of.
Which are those? Cities suggests something with substantial population.
just joined the thread. Can anyone tell me how the hospital "take-over" is going? I hope its not still . . .
So who is going to help the middle-class? Are only the poor going to get monetary assistance? The poor will get LOTS of help anyway.
Any ideas?
I will try...
