You can't hurt a swamp. Natural filter.
Well, they will probably need less assist as they had resources to evac. Also, I am sure FEMA will assist to an extent and they will then need to cash in their homeownership policy and build a new home in Texas. Or NOLA a year later if they want to wait and be without a job that long.
Most people who evac will look for jobs in their new homes too, I doubt they will wait around for Gov to give them money.
You need to read post#106 this thread if you really want to get smacked in the kisser by the possible reality.
We'll know better in a few days...
Alas, too many posts to sift through.
I prefer to call them evacuees. This even applies to those who were able to get a motel for some nights. Sooner or later without money coming in, the money will run out, and we will see many people needing help over the coming weeks, who did not need aid at first, especially if high water keeps insurance companies from helping with settlements. Was flood insurance available at a decent rate in New Orleans?
This isn't the first city in History that the water reclaimed over time... look to Egypt, etc..
You are confusing Orleans Parish (New Orleans) with Jefferson Parish (Metarie/Kenner and a big chunk of the West Bank. Jefferson Parish, while hard hit, suffered much less damage than did Orleans.
Los Angeles County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue personnel prepare gear and search dogs before leaving to support efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina, Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, in Los Angeles.
If you live along I-10, looks for the California Search and Rescue teams making their way to the affected area.....All 28 FEMA-affiliated USAR teams are being deployed for the first time ever. There are NO C5s or C17s available for transport, they are all inservice bringing in food and other goods to LA, MS, AL, TX
There are at least two cities south of N.O. that are GONE.
Didn't like that video - it brings back too many memories.
It is irritating as can be since the military responders are some of the the best you can have IMHO.
Looks like AMC is doing their job of getting supplies into the area. :)
I agree 100%. The guy had every right to be po'd. I have been watching cable news/streaming news/internet reports for four days. Basically I have access to 1000 times more information than this guy had, and I would have told him to goto the Astrodome too. Totally ridiculous.
Thanks
Anyone see that interview on CNN? Nagin is done.
At least most of these that left by car have cars that weren't flooded out - they have more than all these other people. Can use for travel and even sleeping. I'd rather sleep in my car than go in one of those places.
I simply cannot stand thinking about the political uses of this.
At this point I can't even get worked up about our lame governor.
All this blaming, using this to make a point is disgusting to me. I am glad the military is here. If this turns into a dem/repub slugfest, I am through. Really, I am done.
Thinking about the future and what in hell we are going to do about the city, the state and these people is all I really want to do. Let the voters sort it out without all the damned soundbites and snipes and spinnners.
Something tells me that people who showed up outside the Super Dome after Katrina will not be going to the Astro Dome either. I bet this why they quit letting people in.
Once these people get to the Astro Dome then the paperwork will be started on them and their "starting over" funds will be handed out to them.
Astro Dome can only hold 20,000
CNN on LIVE right now outside the Astro Dome
Do tell!
You'll have to forgive me; even though everybody around here knows I'm an oldster, even I wasn't around when Egypt, etc. were reclaimed.
Allow me a little time to be absolutely gobsmacked. And bereft.
