Hostage Situation in New Orleans
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a heads up, armed looters have taken over one of the medical centers in New Orleans where the injured people were being sent. They are holding the entire staff of the hospital hostage and firing at the national guard. An FBI SWAT team has just been flown in (from Baton Rouge I believe) and they are just now getting situated. I'm not sure of any online scanners that are up monitoring the state trs. That is where alot of traffic is going on at.
LSP Troop B is requesting immediate backup. Troopers, riot squad, and national guard. He said the crowd is triple the size it was earlier and they are about to be overrun.
The location is 610 and eleshafield(spelling?).
Should I make another thread that has events going on down there? Lots of stuff has gone on and half of it never makes it on the news or anything.

I always heard that NO didn't have a mafia, it's police force filled that function.

Quiz them. Discuss the situation get a feel for their position on looting. Ask what part they took in the search and rescue efforts.

All looters spotted stealing anything but food & water should be shot on sight. There, fixed it.

In which case, the military/police should have cased off all the grocery stores, pharmacies, etc, confiscated all necessaties, inventoried them for future payment and began distributing them at official check points. This is irresponsability on the part of the government and heads had better roll by the dozens in NO.

Let me make it a little clearer. This is for the New Orleans area. The order was to send them in to New Orleans. Now that is really scary.

Anarchy, which also explains what the gas companies are getting away with. Which hospitals have the gas companies taken over?

Sleeper cell? What the hell kind of "sleeper cell" do you think is about to storm a hospital?

Thx for the ping, HB. I noticed up thread there is discussion of "Dawn of the Dead" (the recent Romero remake). I didn't find it scary but it sure was fun. Vy reminiscent of scary movies I saw as a kid.
Also, very American...set, for the most part, in a suburban mall. My only complaint was that it missed many opportunities for tongue-in-check levity (which I think is a must in any good horror pic or story).

Folks, soon as I heard of the first looters I said we need to drop our paratroopers in there now. Why didn't we? Because the city is underwater, and the potential for severe injury on landing would result in more soldiers injured than combat capable?

Most of us know with complete confidence that we wouldn't participate in an armed gang looting and terrorizing a hospital. I would, however, participate in an armed gang shooting anybody looting and terrorizing a hospital. Don't they have any law-abiding citizens with guns in that town?

I wouldn't have a problem with a neighbourhood watch group staking out a local Walgreens (by force of arms) and making sure that necessities were distributed and people protected. That is called looting. If you did that at a store of mine you and every "do-gooder" looting scumbag with you would get shot.

What the hell kind of "sleeper cell" do you think is about to storm a hospital? The same kind that would take over an elementary school.
Does the name "Beslan" ring any bells, or have you been asleep since hitting the snooze alarm on 9/11?

This is just an observation and I certainly could be wrong, but there is nothing in the photo of the two NO police officers to verify that they took anything from Wal-Mart (or even that they were AT Wal-Mart). And it looks to me like they are carrying paper supplies, not DVDs.
