President Bush to address the nation on Hurricane Katrina...has flown by the damage on Air Force One on way back to D.C.
If we had gotten ANWR drilling started back in 2001, this particular impact would be a lot less.
Agreed, but with one addendum: though it wasn't to this scale, he did have something very tragic happen on his watch, the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986. When that happened, he put off the SOU speech (scheduled that night), and became the Consoler-in-Chief. Reagan provided what was needed then. W provided what was needed now. I see your point.
Nor did I want a SOU Address. All I wanted from the President is what I got. Action. Bluntless. Detail and Leadership. This is what the American people wanted in majority, not rhetorical florishes that do nothing to ease suffering or anxiety.
We already had eight years of that. Thank God that it wasn't twelve (with Gore).
If people thought that the most important aspect of being President of this country was to sound like an erudite snob, either Gore or Kerry would be in the WH. If the war and the economy were as bad as Flipper and the Dem media made it out to be, Kerry would be CIC. The American people had a clear choice, and IMO, they made the right one. /rant
I agree. They are advertising on the Seattle news channels a local place to donate to pay for NW Medical help going down there. I wouldn't be surprised what they do with the money when it comes to Seattle, probably use it for "choice".
Sady, many are. Even the panel on Brit Hume. Pity...
Agreed.
Some priorities are REALLY out of whack when instead of discussing the efforts under way the President laid out and what we can do to fuether aid, we're supposed to discuss rhetoric and image control. God Help us.
BUMP.
Same here Nic. We've sent money and I'll give blood every couple of months like usual, they like me I'm O+ :-}, but I do hope they think long and hard before rebuilding in the bowl.
Not sure. They were only there 11 months, taught at Loyola U. and family wanted to go back to IL.
they like my blood, too, AB+
They'll rebuild there....but what a huge project it will be. Unfathomable, actually, for me.
Well look who just got up: the head Doom and Gloomer.
Howlin, she's (or it's) been pi**ing all over this thread. Makes me not even want to mention her, lest she get bumped to the top of everyone's ping list. We know what we have with W. Plain, direct, hat AND cattle. If we want some faux tears emotionalist in the WH, get Bubba...or Jimmy Swaggart. For my vote, W is the guy we elected. Daily I'm reminded how blessed we are to have him at this time.
Thank you for your prayers. We are hoping/praying they decided to leave at the last moment and just didn't call anyone thinking they could make it to Baton Rouge - but got hung up somewhere. Any kind of phone service in that area is dead.
I would have had him condemn the looting. I would have had him make some kind of statement that Americans are better than some of the pictures have shown. I would have had him say that the rescue workers are heroes...and I would have had him (without fully mentioning it) say that these rescue workers are the equal of any in our history. I thought he sounded kind of silly talking about "144 generators." We're sending generators. Period. The laundry-list-by-the-numbers was not Presidential. Again, just my opinion.
I offered this opinion very respectfully.
What do YOU do for work? Maybe you and he can trade jobs for a while. After a few days of having people hate you for the simple fact that you have a pulse, and being the leader of the free world (and thus a constant target)...
too tired? too exhausted? He works all the time! EVEN ON "VACATION"! Jeezo! Did I accidently leave Free Republic and tune in to the "Dr. Phil Winfrey Show"?
In my view Bush and Chertoff were excellent today, He asuaged a lot of my fears that they didn't know what the hell they were doing. When he said it would take years to rebuild, I knew he knew exactly what he was doing. For once, I both support and am greatly relieved that the feds have taken the bit from the states.
BUMP, with amendment in last sentence.
The ones that worry me are the NOLA Mayor and LA Governor. Earlier today the Guv made a statement indicating she didn't even know she had authority to call out the LA National Guard.
Just a computer geek in the service of my country, tyger. Glad to help.
Probably because you don't know much about generators and are ignoring the fact that without electric current, it is very tough to get anything done these days. Hand pumps, axes and two man saws are not how this situation is gonna get fixed.
Flat? He was meat and potatoes but you wanted wine.
LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!! That is the post of the thread! (humor + truth = LOL!!!)
