President Bush to address the nation on Hurricane Katrina...has flown by the damage on Air Force One on way back to D.C.
It's a very somber day. It feels like 9/12.

You're exactly right.
It did for me.
It's your opinion that this speech "didn't do the job" and you're entitled to an OPINION. Opinions are not necessarily true. Mine differs from yours. 'Nuff said.
"The adults are taking over. Move over Blanco."
Absolutely. Just exactly what I'm thinking. How strong and purposeful the President looked compared to the leadership of the NO mayor and LA gov.
He has a plan. They don't seem to have a clue.
How do we start a Nation Wide movement to boycott all personal automobile driving to reduce the strain on production and refinement of gasoline?

You need to go post on DemocratsUnderground instead on FR.
They'll love that idea. Maybe it would get them off Cindy and the Shrub.
If those prisoners have been in confined quarters with no electricity for the past 48 hours, they probably feel like they are living in Bangladesh or India.

Won't the looters be surprised when they are forcefully evacuated, and have to leave their "loot" behind! The thought makes me smile, just a little.
Thanks. I agree.
The refineries in Calif have all been retooled to produce reformulated gasoline...not federal RFG, but Calif. Air Resources Board RFG -- a much more "cleaner" formulation. Calif. RFG adds about 12-16 cents to every gallon. I don't know if relaxing the standards will help, as refineries aren't going to tear out processors to produce high-sulfur or high-aromatics gasoline. Just wondering how realistic or helpful a relaxation of federal RFG will be in a state that has refineries that have already made the investment to produce cleaner-than-RFG.
Well, maybe it didn't for those who need a sugar teat but they better keep up with the rest of us or get left behind.
I'm sorry but you are a real piece of work....whimpering about the tone of his speech FGS when there are children suffering. Go write a check.
Ditto for me
They need to only be allowed to stay until the tent cities are set up an then they must be returned to LA. I'm serious. Under no circumstances should they be allowed to leave and hang around Houston.
hehehehe.
I'd like to see shoot to kill orders unless it's people stealing water or food.
Free markets and free choice accomplish remarkable things.
MS lt.governor Tuck: (on Hannity)
Mississippi's basic infrastructure is GONE!???***
to help: shelters are open, but need basic needs: food, water, toothbrushes, etc.
N.O. refugees are here, too...
I have the feeling that Bush and company are furious with Blanco and her ineptitude.
%%%%%
She really looks like she is in shock. Baltimore had a catastrophic fire in 1904, consuming the entire downtown business district. The Mayor performed well during the crisis and aftermath, but the stress was too much for him, and weeks later committed suicide.
TG one more time for President Bush and the people who he has working with him.
Your straw man is an absurd one.
One of the most absurd I have ever seen. The two settings and moments in time were quite different. I can see that, plain and simple. Most of us can. By my standards of what I expected currently, the President met them.
Recall that Ground Zero came days after the President had given a number of statements, from Louisiana, from the White House after he flew back, etc. The only rave he got was Ground Zero, except for his addresses at the National Cathedral and before Congress. His brief, planned statements leading up to Ground Zero did not receive such raves.
Who remembers that or cares now?
Yours is one of the most petty, irrelevant comments I have seen in my years here.
Well look who just got up: the head Doom and Gloomer.
RIGHT ON!!!
Ain't whimpering, sweetie!!
