In response to my column on the decline of cable news because of their obsession with missing-person cases, one person wrote in, "Come-On. Get a Grip... What's wrong with a couple of hours 'break' from Real News.."
A couple hours break?
On the other hand, one said, "I am so sick of hearing all of the details of the Aruba fiasco that I just can't tolerate it any more. This Aruba show is sinking Fox News, and I am watching it less and less."
Here's what someone else wrote:
"I just read your article and have to agree completely that the Holloway reporting has gone completely off the deep end. I used to be a junky watching Hard Ball, O'Reilly, Hannity/Colmes and then Scarborough Country until about a month or two ago.
It was getting too much for me to waste that much time but these shows used to be compelling. Especially the first year or so of Scarborough Country. Joe used to be hard-hitting, very conservative and used to expose media bias and liberal hypocrisy. Not any more. Lately he has tried to go head to head and compete with Greta just because they are on at the same time.

Where do I sign up? :)
Granted, Ann Coulter is an icon of the conservative movement, but I haven't watched Fox News since they hired that @sshole Geraldo Rivera -- and warned them as much when that move was announced a couple of years ago.
You have yourself a great day.
Sincerely,
Alberta's Child
P.S. Nobody on Fox could hold a candle to Rush Limbaugh.
And that is what puzzles me about Fox.
For example - They have a "cousin" in Sky News. There are world stories they could share to fill up the time with new news rather than repeat the same stuff over and over. Weekends are a waste as they repeat the same shows 2 to 4 times a day. Then do it again on Sunday.
It is time for Fox to "grow up" and differentiate themselves from CNN rather than to move to the same format as CNN - Tragedy TV.
Brit Hume is my fav. I trust him more than any of 'em.
Give up on all of those networks. Everything you need to know in life can be learned right here on FreeRepublic.
I agree with #2. Juliet, Rebecca, Lauren, Martha, Laurie...I could go on.
That's about all my husband and I watch now on FNC. We used to be regular viewers of BOR and H&C, even Greta, but only if she was discussing the War on Terrorism, Bill Gertz, etc. A few others we like: Cal Thomas' show on Saturday nights, some of the Sat. AM "business block" shows, and Neil Cavuto, although I'm rarely home at that time to catch the entire show.
Sadly, Joe Scarborough of MSNBC's "Scarborough Country" has also jumped on the Natalee bandwagon.
If so, I wanna drive the truck, and be a turn 1 tower camera operator. Who is gonna be our cook? Ummm, I can smell the ribs already!
Like I said, Americans have obsessive personalities. Fox milks each story as much as it can, and then they look for another story to obsess over.
What's interesting is to watch Greta between stories. She throws up a bunch of "so what?" stories to see if she can get one to stick. Then when she's got one that sticks, she runs with it. All of the other stories she reported on in the interim are completely forgotten.
When she can't find one that sticks, she looks lost, wandering aimlessly.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my FoxFan list. *Warning: This can be a high-volume ping list at times.
My mom has been following Aruba every day.
It's the new soap opera.
Definitely a woman thing.
"Yet the Fox news numbers continue to rise. The ratings actually showed that more people WANTED to see the Aruba story. Someone please explain that one."
Exactly. Greta's numbers were higher than O'Reilly's when she was in Aruba. Don't blame FOX news...they're just giving the audience what they want...blame Americans for watching 24/7. The same ones who watch all the reality crap tv shows and buy National Enquirer.
O'Reilly and Hannity don't have that much coverage of Aruba lately. I love Neil Cavuto, John Gibson, Brit Hume, Sean and sometime O'Reilly. Compared to the liberal garbage the MSM puts out, FOX is a godsend.
Ditto and ditto.
This may be true, but I think FNC is the only thing driving this case. If FNC gave up on it, Aruba would have told the girls mother to take a hike.
Fox news was pandering from day one. You think the same company they fills the airways with the most tasteless stuff imagineable was philosophically in tune with the stuff they were airing.
It's all about giving people what they want.
LOL, talk about putting a chill on the anti-FOX crowd!
Thanks for the ping!
If people didn't like it they wouldn't tune in. Says more about society today than just the valueless, irresponsible, money hungry news networks/media outlets.
In my opinion television and others in the so-called "entertainment" industry ARE the source of much of the misery today and have been for 40 years.
This big "reality TV" thing today is nothing but a gold mine for the elite media conglomerates used to showcase the stupidity/gullibility of the "little people". Imagine having a TV program where you don't have to pay "stars" a million an episode but still pull down the same advertising dollars.(hmmm, sounds like outsourcing, doesn't it?)
Surprised I haven't heard the actor unions up in arms over this. Hopefully they'll realise they're are all getting hosed and they'll all go on strike, get the techie unions to do the same and force the whole industry to shutdown...
....and in doing so save this country a lot of misery.
