I never thought in this day and age, with all of our technology that such a death toll from a hurricane was possible in this country. It staggers the mind. Where did it all go so wrong?

Here's a horrible thought, but we must think about it. What a time this would be for terrorists to strike. I believe there are large numbers of them here, and I think the may be prepared to hit.

G*d be with us and give us courage. We are in a different place again...as we were after 9/11. Yea though we walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, WE WILL FEAR NO EVIL FOR THOU ART WITH US, Thy rod and Thy staff prepare us a way! We have a dreadful job of recovery and clean-up ahead, much as the people in Southeast Asia have had since Christmas just past. Our first priority then must be to save those we can save in this next week, while there's still time. There's another storm front moving in. It WON'T ever be the same again. It'll be different. But we will go on. As one lady in New Orleans standing in her green silk suit and with nothing left said: "We will ENDURE! Americans and people in this part of the world are good at that--ENDURING!" And your friends, and there are many, will stand beside you to help you. DO NOT BE AFRAID. WE ARE WITH YOU! SAVE THE LIVING! Before Katrina hit CNN or FOX was showing vid of a a cop or guardsman telling a man S of NOLA he had to evacuate. If he didn't he'd be taken away in cuffs. The fellow - typical stereotyped ol' Cajun was arguing ...told the cop the last time a 'cane came through a family left their home and was killed on the highway...said when the man upstairs calls it doesn't matter where you are you're gonna go.

Eventually the cop gave up and left the guy. I wonder where he is right now. There have been reports in the Times-Picayune that after flyovers of areas - presumably like where this guy was - they are just not there anymore...NO signs of life...everything and everyone gone.

Sadly I would probably have been like the guy who refused to leave.

Katrina's aftermath is a living nightmare. Everything about it is terribly, terribly sad. Wish that I could say I'm surprised by this news but I am not. From the outset I've felt the final death count of the storm will be astronomical. Hope that I'm wrong but I doubt it.

May God bless your friend. And may He bless all those who were lost, as well as their friends and family.

Merciful Father in Heaven,

We are lifting in prayer our many fellow Americans who have lost lives and property in New Orleans and other areas throughout the devastated Gulf Coast region. Please, Father, bless all who are affected. Guide them. Comfort them. Move our fellow citizens to compassion so that all urgent needs can be met. Guide the rescue workers, the police and law enforcement, the volunteers and the many constructive souls who are working to help that area with recovery from this disaster. For those who are clinging to life and hoping for rescue, please send an angel to them to keep up their hope and indeed send help to them.

Enfold those you have chosen to call home and help their loved ones through their grief, and our nation to recover from the immense loss each life represents.

Help our President and all our leaders have wisdom and compassion as they work to help New Orleans, the Gulf Coast, and our nation recover from this disaster.

Father, we ask that you will bind and judge the consciousness moving in through and around people who are falling into the temptation to loot and take undue advantage of their brothers and sisters suffering adversity. Bring these people into a rapt attention and shake them free from a selfish and dishonest mindset. Protect our Police and National Guard and all others who are charged with the responsibility of maintaining order.

Thank you Father. We are grateful that you hear us and always answer according to thy infinitely perfect divine Will.
