(Hugh vey series vanity post!)
I just heard from my daughter in Waveland, Miss.
They had evacuated sunday, and just returned home today.
Her family is alive and well, but they lost everything.
Thanks to God for his mercy.

Sorry about the rude posters.
Glad they are so badly outnumber here on FR.

AP reports N.O. Mayor is saying hundreds, possibly thousands have died in this storm. Reporter went on to say it will most likely be a staggering number, according to anonymous authorities they have been in contact with. Looks like SOME on this thread (who should remain nameless) owe MFH an apology.

Oh no....I was afraid of that. The media hardly mentioned anything about Mississippi or Alabama prior to Katrina. It all focused on New Orleans.

If the death count rises "into the thousands", I will stand corrected. In the meantime, and for the record: Did President Bush declare the Gulf Coast a disaster area at least 24 hours before the order came down to evacuate New Orleans? I believe this is true, and if I'm wrong on this, I hope someone will correct me pronto.

I wish I could find a definitive timeline of all official pronouncements since the day Katrina hit Florida.

FWIW, Michael Medved just opened his program and said, among other things, that the death count *COULD* be in the tens of thousands, that nobody really knows yet.

I do not want to make light of the deaths of one or many.

If I were to write a Lib Headline it would be something like:

"When is the U.S. going to get out of Gulf Coast Cities. We need a timeline because everyday the body count keeps mounting!"

CNN now has a breaking news banner that says "New Orleans mayor says Katrina killed hundreds -- maybe thousands -- of people in city, Associated Press reports"

After Camille, the death toll was initially thought to be much higher than it ended up, because hundreds of bodies had washed out of cemeteries. As gruesome as this is, I pray that this is the case here also.

Has anybody mentioned the groundswell of volunteers and financial aid from other countries who are showing up to assist us in our catastrophe? You know... from the countries we help after earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. (Just kidding.)

CNN and FOX are both reporting the dead number in the thousands – in New Orleans alone. I fear the total for the Gulf Coast may well be in the tens of thousands.
I can’t really grasp it.

This thread was just mentioned on Hugh Hewitt, even mentioning the OP by name and said it was fear mongering.

Comments?

The President was flat as a pancake today. I'd like to shake whichever speechwriter he pays who makes him look like anything but a dynamic, uplifting leader.

I knew what I was looking for in his speech at this critical moment......and I didn't find it.

GW runs hot and cold in his speeches. Today, an inspiring Churchill he was not.
