It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....
It's not snobbery...it's looking at this from a point of common sense.
But hey...blow off someone who works in radio/TV and go with the guy who drops in stirs the pot and leaves.
The reports I have seen said the first flooding in New Orleans happened in the east where storm surge over flowed the levees. Then Lake Ponchatrain filled up and destroyed Sidell before it started to flow into New Orleans through levee 'breaks'. Look at sat images. The Lake swallowed another small lake north west of it. The Hurricanes wobble combined with a slight decrease in max speeds suggest that it was already on land at that point. This very large Hurricane was about 30 % over land when the speed began to slow. The wobble could have been simply due to running into ground on the north side. It was spinning counterclockwise. Try to slow it in the north and the whole things tracks slightly to the right. This was a Cat 5 storm. Came in full strength before first feeling land (when speed slowed). We may have to redefine when large Hurricanes like this ('Super Typhon's) contact land. It may effectively be before the inner eye wall hits land.
I work in radio-TV too, for more than 25 years. In a town I suppose is "podunk" to you.
The total conspiracy nut theme of that post boggles the mind.
Google Earth uses a preloaded database. You cannot see up-to-date stuff until it is loaded.
yeah and be real glad these arent ragheads with AK-47's. If we fail in Iraq you will see this all over USA.
Interesting. We will eventually know the facts. I, too, believe it would be next to impossible for any entity to muzzle the entire media (here described as the MSM). If you care to would you say how you found FreeRepublic? In any case, welcome to the forum.
Then you of all people shouldn't be falling hook line and sinker for this without credible sources.
Would one of your reporters or producers be allowed to go live with a fantastic story like this based on a conversation a guy supposedly had with a friend?
Yes there was looting. I am from the area, and the harsh actions taken against looters are legendary. There were looters who were cutting off the fingers of the dead to steal their rings. Martial law was declared in Galveston, and looters were beaten, shot and jailed. There is so much hype going around about this Katrina already, and this outrageous post does not help. Ane the post that started this thread, that there are thousands dead and their deaths are being covered up, is pure BS.
Finally another voice of reason.
Well said sir.
A post at 592 also.
Nope, but I've never known My Favorite Headache to be a less-than credible poster, and the evidence incrementally is that there is a massive loss of life. Even in the mainstream media, which you seem to glorify, there have been numerous reports that relief crews have thus far been ignoring the dead in favor of rescuing the living. In some areas, the coastline moved two miles inland, and some smaller towns have been virtually removed from the map. I think you'll see a pretty stunning death toll once the focus shifts from rescuing the living to recovering the dead.
I tend to be skeptical, but I am finding bits & pieces in the MSM that tend to support this report, including the earlier report on CNN I mentioned and the reports from NO that they are currently ignoring bodies in favor of saving people from rooftops.
I hope my saying so doesn't send people into a tizzy. I'll add the caveat that I'm not there, don't have any contacts there, and only know what I've seen on FR and the MSM.
Oh, my dear Lord, this is horrible news. My mind is having trouble accepting all this information. Prayers for all of them, and for all of the rescue workers and survivors.
There are no counties in Lousiana. Louisiana has parishes. Calm down.
You must not be a reporter...you're falling for this hook line and sinker.
What you are saying producers and reporters on your station wouldn't let get on the air you are out there trumpeting like it's the Gospel.
No evidence...one fantastic post with no proof to back it up...nothing from the MSM.
Give me a break.
I guess we'll find out in a day or two. With the damage I've seen, I don't doubt the numbers myself.
There are places they haven't even gotten to because they can't. No communications at all. No cell phones, no land lines.
