Astonishing Exclusive From Mississippi [hundreds if not thousands dead]
Paramedic Rescue Operation | 8-31-05 | My Favorite Headache

Posted on 08/30/2005 10:10:45 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

It is with heavy heart I write this...

I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.

He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.

Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.

They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.

The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.

The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.

More to follow....

The mods were a little testy yesterday, as were we all.
I got my first timeout in 7yrs (1hr) for smackin' an @hole who needed it, but life goes on...

In any event, glad you're back.
Appreciate your efforts.

Since only MFH was banned (since reinstated), it's natural to assume a few people complained specifically about him. How telling.

Actually, given his 'seniority' here, there's no reason to think that.

I certainly did not hit Abuse on him. I can pretty much count on one hand the number of times I've hit Abuse on people who attacked me. And I certainly didn't think MFH attacked me.

I think MFH just ran afoul a single moderator for reposting the same story. Usually, coming back to repost something they've already pulled is a little dangerous.

Personally, I'm glad he's back. I very rarely like bannings other than complete DU trolls.

Breaking news is an FR tradition

And a proud one at that!

But it won't be a tradition much longer if trigger-happy mods are allowed free reign. Posters who are sitting on unreported scoops will soon learn that they'd best keep quiet lest their accounts be banned or suspended. The mod who did this to MFH did all of us a disservice. He or she owes MFH a big apology and the rest of us an explanation.

Suppression of a confirmed report on many levels is something new to me on FR. But hey...I am not a Mod...they have their own agenda...it's done and over...let's move on and get the news out.

You simply had a run-in with a single mod. Chalk it up to a bit of a SNAFU. Your rapid reinstatement tells us a lot about this.

Welcome back.

FWIW, CNN claiming this morning that Mississippi claiming 185 deaths but that is expected to sharply rise. I don't have a link to their website for that info.

In the 5-6 years I have been coming to this site, it has gone way downhill. The moderators can be bad enough as it is, but now you have to deal with the "mod wannabees" playing thread police. You have the "vanity", "duplicate thread", and worst of all, the "newby" police. But if that weren't bad enough, there is an emerging "breaking news" police.

I like FR for the quick news and counter spin to the MSM, but the maturity level and IQ of FR is spiraling downward.

As sad is the news is, I think MFH has been more than vindicated by the slow realization of the size of this disaster. A lot of posters on this thread need to apologize and get a life.

I have to agree. This is a discussion board and if people are afraid of speaking, where does that leave discussion? I'm not talking about being rude as I've seen a great deal of that also and there ARE posters that get away with it and others that have to be VERY careful what they say. But do we now need to fear saying "I just heard on Fox"?

My take on it is that being a Mod is one of the most thankless tasks...and I don't expect perfection. Heck, I'm just happy with the speed with which they bounce 99.9% of the trolls. Hard to do a IBTZ before the ban kicks in and a troll post is pulled.

Nothing personal taken. It wasn't meant to be a thread about rumors and speculation. Quite the opposite. What I was trying to convey was the real on the ground story from the area.

When you see firemen on Fox News deputizing people to pick bodies out of homes and rubble...to me..that puts the true face on just how bad and dire it is down there.

My intention was only to pass along the news and the great need for help there and what these medics and rescuers were going through.

The stories he told me last night (he is going back on Friday by the way for a week to Mississippi to help set up a triage unit and recover more dead) he was telling me about how nursing homes that were not evacuated inland had people who were dead but those that did survive were brought to high school gym's and that a lot of the inner city poor and drug addicts were in the shelters with no air no working bathrooms, people urinating in corners of the gym and all over the building, defecating wherever they felt like, and that the elderly were forced to sleep on hard wood stages in these schools.

People were not giving up their foam mattresses or ice or anything.

Total chaos and the stories only got worse.

Keep posting the updates. We'll know more in a few days about the Mississippi death toll.

I wondered if the reason your newer thread was first pulled was because it was an Orlando Salinas report. As you may recall, he has been a little quick off the line on a few stories before in Floriduh. I like him and Shep but it's not the same thing as seeing Brit Hume report something.

I checked all the Fox News pages up right now and only found mention of various FEMA trucks, no mention of morgue trucks. The lack of mention of morgue trucks is a bit telling though since we know they have to have them. Still, that means little as FNC's website is really complete crapola. And FNC is using a count of 110 for MS now which doesn't even jibe with CNN's 185.

It seems to me that the complete lack of reporting on the temporary morgues and facilities is kind of suspicious. How do survivors know, for instance, where to go check for relatives and such? I think there's going to be a real story there.

The media's reporting on this tragedy really does open a lot of questions for everyone.

What it is doing is it is leaving no other option other than to have local newspaper editors resort to writing blogs of just how bad the situation is. It is setting off a desperate panic from families across the nation who can no longer accept the excuse of phone lines are down, don't worry...we are sure they are ok.

Sure...there were plenty of survivors inland...totally different towards the coast.

We should never forget that the MSM's job and goal is not just to report the news - it's also to manage the news.

MFH...the following story is excerpted from my local Delaware newspaper. It certainly lends credence to what your EMS friend stated.

Family Escapes Storm, Worries For Friends (9/1/05)

La. man concerned about damage to house

BY TERRI SANGINITI / The News Journal 09/01/2005

As he drove out of New Orleans hours before Hurricane Katrina struck, attorney Charlie Carr passed hundreds of people: adults sitting on their porches and kids in the street, riding bicycles as if it were a snow day.

"I know these people didn't get out," the former Wilmington resident said Wednesday, choking back tears.

Three days earlier, he gathered his two kids, three dogs and three cats and drove 16 hours to Nashville, Tenn., to avoid brutal winds and flooding.

Carr said he has remained in contact via the Internet with friends in New Orleans, many of them police and rescue workers.

"A lot of policemen are dead," Carr said. "They sent the second shift home Sunday night and told them to just come back for the regular shift the next day. The officers were text messaging that they were trapped in their homes."

"The death toll is going to be enormous," he said. "I don't know if my friends got out."

Thank You...the important thing right now is to keep the information flowing...I am getting tons of e-mails regarding family...any stories that people are finding first hand should post them to this thread as many freepers have personally contacted me about friends,in-laws and others finding people in homes...dead.

We know FR trumps the media 9 out of 10 times with breaking news...no reason to break that tradition now in light of a few who believe the situation "isn't that bad" in Miss.

Emergency management officials not only wouldn't speculate on how many died when a 30-foot wall of water swept into the Gulfport-Biloxi area, they repeatedly refused to say how many bodies had been recovered.

"Our preparation area is just overwhelmed," said Tommy Franklin, manager of the Riemann Funeral Home, where the remains are being stored. Refrigerated trucks were on the way, he said.

As one of those 'few', I completely agree. Let the reports come in. Time will tell the story in Mississippi.

WHY?

Exactly. Especially when the MSM has such an opportunity for a big blame-Bush moment to kick off the 2006 Dim candidates.

There really does seem to be a strange media silence that has developed here. There is no doubt that considerable numbers of bodies, whether hundreds or thousands, have been recovered by now. And yet the media reports as little as possible.

I can't see the payoff for them, given their known agenda and well-established patterns of biased reporting.
