It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....
I do not want to make light of the deaths of one or many.
If I were to write a Lib Headline it would be something like:
"When is the U.S. going to get out of Gulf Coast Cities. We need a timeline because everyday the body count keeps mounting!"
CNN now has a breaking news banner that says "New Orleans mayor says Katrina killed hundreds -- maybe thousands -- of people in city, Associated Press reports"
LOL! Before, you wouldn't believe it because the Lame Stream media wasn't reporting...
Now that it has, and is even quoting the mayor, now you you want physical numbers to believe this.
ppppffff.
Twist much?
LOL
Let me repost portion I think pertinent:
What was originally about Gulf Port, Mississippi and 3 other beach communities DID NOT not extend to MFH declaring that the mayor of Orleans (would) say there were hundreds of deaths in New Orleans...maybe thousands."
Perhaps a lot of us (me included) extrapolated and thought MFH's source implied that thousands perhaps perished on the Mississippi coast. And that is NOT the case.
Now, NOLA may well be another issue but was not the original topic of the thread.
The post by MFH has degenerated into shooting the messenger rather than the messenger. And then in turn, has deteriorated into us "shooting" each other.
"you have more positions than an epileptic hooker."
And you can back that up with examples from my posts? Back to those pesky facts again.
Has this always been the case? Many of these cemetaries are quite old. Who knows how well they were sealed..?
Here's one post (I have't visited it in a while though)
Hurricane Katrina HOUSING thread...

The cajun term is more appropriate here ... in New Orleans they don't call it backpedaling, they call it crawfishin'
You are such a bald faced liar.
MFH's info wasn't questioned...it was attacked, impugned, discounted, slandered, and everything else accept taken in manner is was explicitly given.
We knew it couldn't be confirmed, but that wasn't good enough for some. They had to shoot the messenger. What they weren't counting on was that messenger has more ass than they had teeth.
There's a reason we pay attention to seniority around here.
That may well be true....be when long time FReepers publicly attest to another long-time Freeper's known veracity to speaking truthfully....well, it's one thing to say they'll wait and see....it's quite another to repudiate their post, and every other person who speaks to the veracity of the original poster.
Probably picking up radio converstaions from other crews working in adjoining areas. Just a thought.
That's chilling.
"it was hyperbole, an exaggeration...ah, forget it"
That's funny because I'd call it an outright lie.
I did ask a couple of the naysayers what they thought the count would be. One replied 400-1500, which would be a bit lower than what is implied in MFH's post, but much at the high end.
Since that exchange, we've seen the post from one who talked to another SAR worker in Gulfport today who tagged 40 bodies just today. That also appears consistent.
Bottom line: This is bad. Very bad. And the news will keep getting worse for at least a couple of weeks now. And those who are acting like this is just another 'cane, only a little worse, are walking around with blinders on.
Well said.
