Astonishing Exclusive From Mississippi [hundreds if not thousands dead]
Paramedic Rescue Operation | 8-31-05 | My Favorite Headache

Posted on 08/30/2005 10:10:45 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

It is with heavy heart I write this...

I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.

He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.

Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.

They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.

The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.

The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.

More to follow....

Your credibility preceeds you.

So they can get off your back as far as I'm concerned.

Members of the Biloxi fire department and police department work to remove one of six bodies recovered in a destroyed neighborhood in East Biloxi.

"CNN showed a cop in Slidell this morning. He was fine. Most of the houses looked intact at the interview site. Flooding but no massive damage. But then maybe this was high ground. Still, the lower areas were flooded."

You obviously missed the Slidell info post.

Yes. I'm not a doomsdayer, but this is very bad I fear. I have been following this stuff for as long as I can remember, and as far as surge goes this was a worst case scenario. People are trying to claim the media has been everywhere, but that is simply not true. I do not know if there are thousands of bodies in plain site, but I wouldn't doubt the numbers. Again, FEMA modeling suggested 50-60k might die in a situation like this... assuming a successful evacuation. Even in the most successful evac, not everyone will leave. 50-60k is likely high, but I don't doubt that several thousand might have perished.

Many will disagree, but there is no talking sense into some people.

I second that. I am sick of reading this type of crap as well. Lousiana, and Mississippi have a very high number of people living in poverty, which may come as somewhat of an eye opener to many people in the rest of the country. All a lot of these people had were their homes and the meager posessions inside. Thousands of them have no homeowners insurance. It's easy to sit here and say you would abandon everything you own, when you have home-owners insurance, a car, and money.

I can't believe the judgement I've seen from Freepers. Callous doesn't begin to describe it. It sounds an awful lot like "blame the victim" instead of those in charge.

Very little warning this time Frank. This went from a measly tropical storm to a ferocious monster all teeth and claws in the relative blink of an eye.

In a perverse way, the massive coverage of all the Flodia hurricans last year may well have encouraged everyoen to stay put now..Loss of life was minimal..hell, more people get killed on the highways in a weekend..so many probably figured..stay and ride it out...protect my property..and get an early start ont he clean-up..they saw all the commericals about the insurance companies coming in the next day and wrting checks on the spot..

Hi, lugsoul

I'll jump and take a stab at it -

but the actual death toll 'range' and I think the turmoil on this thread is regarding the original post and the count from that post. I think they are two different things, unless I have not been following every post closely enough.

Here's my stab:

340-450 but it goes up each day that some people in dire situations are not rescued. [that is, they expire / die after the initial impact] and sitting on the highway by the dome doesn't count.

And, FWIW, this estimate is not a reflection on MFH's credibility.

The worst is still to come.

Those who survived in NO but are stil waiting for rescue will die due to exposure and other stuffs, such as dysentary caused by nasty water and exhaustian.

There was plenty of warning time... indications were that it would be a MONSTER as soon as it was off the FL coast. The main problem IMO is that the NWS focused too much on winds. When it was 902mb with 175mph winds... the scenarios were all talking about the terrible wind damage, or flooding of NO. Surge was mentioned at the end, and not much was explained to the general public what storm surge can do.

That part of the GOM is the most susceptible to this kind of terrible event, and it hasn't happened in recorded history to this degree as far as I know. This is about as bad as it gets.

I guess not though I've read this entire thread. I know what I saw on TV. That cop didn't talk about thousands of bodies. Actually, he didn't talk about any dead in Slidell.

I can't believe the judgement I've seen from Freepers.

Neither can I.

Callous doesn't begin to describe it. It sounds an awful lot like "blame the victim" instead of those in charge.

Indifferent, insensitive, soulless, uncaring, uncompassionate, unfeeling.

I guess they aren't afraid of being judged by God in the same merciful way.

They also talked to the Mayor and he said nothing about thousands of bodies either.

He did say they were gonna have to move City Hall.

MFH is not required or compelled to answer you. When someone posts something out of the sincerity of their heart from their best friend who is a trained professional involved in the SAR, and then someone comes along and to their face calls it BS...the options are either to get back in their face or ignore the insult and try to move on.

We have officials (Governors of two states and Mayors) saying things like this is America's tsunami. What pictures does that conjure up since nearly 300,000 died in a tsunami recently?

We have officials in localities talking about hundreds killed in their own localities when the pictures from those localities look just like what we see in dozens of localities. The extrapolation from these statements and reports is clear. Potentially thousands have died.

Now, from MFH, we get an eyewitness account that tends to corroborate that. Not to confirm it...just an individual report from the ground. That is all this is...but to those watching closely...it is a data point that tends to line up with the potentially horrific reality that many of us are already considering.

That's all this is. No need to get angry, insulting, or upset over it IMHO. But that's just my opinion on the matter.

BTW, thank you sincerely for your service to our Republic from my entire family here in Idah.

Yes, that is what I mean. Some undoubtedly will. Also, as has been posted earlier, people HAVE to do some things themselves to get out. They can't just wait.

Here are good links posted earlier by AliVeritas
