Civilian gangs have overtaken streets in N.O.French Quarter and robbing businesses...a N.O. Police officer came upon a looting fest at a gas station and was shot point blank in the head.
All looters are armed with guns according to police
Ya know, some poor guy was being completely trashed by fellow Freeper's on the daily Katrina threads because he had the AUDICITY to bring up the idea that God might be sending a big 'ole hurricane to NO as an act of JUDGMENT againts their various vices...
Shoot, if anything, God should have sent a much bigger hurricane...this one obviously did not wipe out nearly enough people...
It's when tragedy strikes that you see what people are really made of...and many of the residents of NO are not making very good impressions right now...
Pragmatically most of the stuff the looters are taking will be junked as soon as the water levels rise....lawlessness however builds as we see with the cop shooting. So the issue isn't really whether looting is morally heinous...it's how far they'll allow lawlessness to grow.
Part-of me thinks that way, too, especially with groceries, but then I am sure most of these people would be doing it even with the waters rising. Do we know how much looting of houses is being done?
MOST are black. There are white ones.
"I know 9-11 doesn't compare to this catastrophe, but NYorkers were extremely decent during that emergency! If I recall correctly, there was no looting, but folk helping folk!"
There were a couple of incidents. Guys stealing watches and some copper coil, but mostly very well behaved. In fact, crime overall went waaay down in the weeks following, even though there were fewer cops on patrol in most areas. The spirit in the whole tri-state area was unbelievable.
"These people make the Iraqi's look civilized...."
Makes me think of all our soldiers over there who might have family down there. What a helpless feeling that must be.
Almost as bad as the helpless feeling shared by 1,000,000 of America's newest homeless people. Shoot, everyone is feeling quite helpless in the face of this disaster.
But it would be terrible to spend time overseas only to come home to a house and family that are no longer there. Home means a lot more for a soldier overseas than it does for anyone else.
"Stand back and watch, you liberals; you are about to see the fruits of your labors."
AMEN!!!!!
Prayers for the officer. Taking necessary items such as food for survival is one thing, anything more is wrong and such looters should be shot.
That would have to be the CNN clip I saw last night. Two greatly overweight lady cops, who looked like the sort of people that would in the olden days enjoy the petty power of being crossing guards. Instead they were waddling around armed. I hope the union doesn't stand up for them when they're fired.
When I saw the video, it occurred to me that confronting them like that could very possibly put the news crew in danger.
I'm thinking it might be a good idea to put some federal troops in the French Quarter now, before it's too late.
Tiz interesting that the Storm appeared the day the last Jews were forced out of Gaza. A coincidence perhaps, but perfect timing none the less.
People can go without eating for a month, it is a bit early to be looting "for survival purposes". This has nothing to do with survival, Anybody that has spent time in New Orleans knows what a cesspool that city is.
"I just saw a video of two NO cops looting! It was hilarious. They got busted big time!"
I had heard the NO police Dept was notoriously corrupt.....but then I also heard a police chief was imported from another city a few years back to "clean it up"...
Hmmmmm,
I did not read the other guys post about God sending the hurricane, however, I do believe that things happen for a reason, and IMO all things start with HIM. HE did this for a reason and at some point we will all find out what the reason was, it may be something as simple as showing how stupid people can be in this type of situation and let that be a lesson to the rest of us. It may be that next time don't build a freakin city below sea level because this is what happens. I have been flamed in prior threads for saying these people on rooftops that did not prepare got what they deserved, read my tagline, sometimes people can't handle the truth so they resort to name calling, it's pitiful, and don't get me started on the ones that think looting is ok!
LOL! Does your alphabet soup talk to you also?
