Your letter is very good but I doubt it will move the brass. You are right to address the DAV they have the guys with the expertise to help you.
If it makes you feel any better, it has always been hard to get the military to admit that things were service related. My father was in WWII and the DAV and spent countless hours helping Vets get their rightful benefits. On the bright side, I don't think he ever failed to get rightful benefits even if it took forever but he was a dogged person. Don't give up and don't think that since the bureaucracy doesn't give a whit that we don't.
Prayers up.

I think they should create a new classification or perhaps a sub-classisfication of "service related" to accommodate these types of situations.

What little comfort it may be, but I can (through personal experience) tell you that the Army has made positive changes in ruling LOD death related to Iraq veterans. I would strongly suggest she contact her US representative's office. She will need to be persistent with the aides in the office and make numerous phone calls. Good luck

You are correct...PTSD did attribute to the shortening of his life..no doubt about it..
The DAV is the only way to go on this...
The Veterans Administration protects itself first and foremost in my experience..
This is why DAV exists...to fight for service connected disabled veterans... The denial of care..seems to be the nature of government bureaucracy I am afraid..
God Bless you and will pray for you...
I have lost many friends and acquaintances through the years and PTSD was most definitely a major factor in their untimely loss...many did not receive the help they needed and deserved...and the burden was born by their loved ones..
Hopefully the next batch of combat vets will be better treated ...
imo
