Cruise ships normally dock in New Orleans, and those vessels won't be making their scheduled trips from that port for some time, so they are essentially idle. No doubt, FEMA could pay the going rate to rent them and put them and their crews to great use. The Mississippi River appears to be as navigable as it ever has been. Yes, there is debris, but that river always has a lot of debris. I believe this is an eminently workable approach to rescuing a large number of people rather quickly.

GHW Bush won Florida in 1992, despite Lawton "Moron" Chiles attempts to portray him as "out of touch."

No, they were totally on the job and doing their best.

It just isn't anywhere near good enough.

It seems like the mayor of No has vanished into oblivion, and the leadership void is just another aspect of the tragedy.

I saw the New Orleans mayor on one report. He kept glancing at a paper in front of him.. He did not know how to say the simplist of things about what was going on. He had somebody prepare a cheat sheet for him and read off of it, pretending to glance down and bow his head--there was a little valence type thing blocking his desk so you could not tell he had papers there, but it was obvious there was he could not even talk freely so he had to read off a script.

How embarrassing for New Orleans that you voted in an incompetent mayor and incompetent governor. You need leadership right now and you don;t have it.

No wonder they have to declare martial law. Put the Natioanl Guard in control of the martial law, not the mayor or governor.

If you value your posting privileges, next time think twice before posting bigoted remarks as you did.

But, but, but, this is a false report.

Isn't it?

Think, Yankee-Can-Do. Even that ol' stinker, Marx, said it, "You can do anything the human mind can think up." (I paraphrase) Reason we were able to go to the moon.

I could sit around with my middle schoolers and come up with more viable plans that would have worked when faced with a CAT FIVE hurricane barrelling up New Orleans rear.

Born, raised, and still reside in CA, and I could probably come up with something. For instance, there are several states that get the tar pounded out themselves every year. Without fail, every year, we sit and see the damage on tv, and of course here, where posters keep the rest of us up to date.

Okay, the officials know that this is going to happen, so why don't they all get together and come up with a cohesive plan? Oh, nevermind. I just had a mental image of Haley Barbour trying to work with Mary Landrieux.

Seriously, have they ever thought about pooling multi-state resources?

Yes - that's assuming they're not already out to sea.

They are Democrats. What did you expect? The only thing current Demopcrats are good at is being traitors to the USA and being guilty of treason against their country. Leadership, what's that? You want leadership from Democrats? Just go to Detroit and Baltimore and you'll get all the good leadership you want!!! Ha, ha, only joking, of course!!! America, you better open your eyes. The good Lord in heaven is sending you a message!!!

Nagin has been remarkably unimpressive and Blanco has a wide-eyed look of confusion that's better accustomed to a middle manager in a big firm being asked a question at a department meeting.

It's really sad to watch those two. I hope that a natural leader will take over the relief effort and displace those mediocre characters. Perhaps a police chief or a business executive can take over the coordination of these rescue operations.

All Americans, especially New Yorkers, will never forget the tested leadership of Mayor Giuliani. In times of war or natural disaster, there are few men with the character and inner strength capable of exceptional leadership. Giuliani is a towering figure.

Prayers for our brothers in Louisiana.

It already has been blamed on Bush ... he didn't sign the Kyoto accords ...

(Corporate Law, hmmm - that's what I'm studying)

A cruise ship can traverse the Gulf from Cancun to New Orleans in a day and a half. If ships are anywhere in the Gulf they can get to New Orleans rather quickly.
