Reminding me now of Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner:
"Water, water everywhere, and how the boards did creak. Water, water everywhere, and not a drop to drink."

Where on the River are you?
Pool 8 (La Crosse) is very low, but it because the people who work for bird habitat do that every year to encourage the weed growth....like it needs encouragement.
I haven't driven past the side branches/sloughs in a couple of weeks. Last time we went over the River (maybe 10 days ago), I noticed the sand bars and islands seemed more prominent.
We have had drought up here and worse, I hear, on the Iowa side. But we have lots of people on the dark side determined to use the locks and dams to "return the River to its prehistoric flows."
Maybe seeing the results of Mississippi traffic disruption will make those radical greens rethink their ideology.

"carjackings taking place...they need soldiers in there..just like a freaking war zone."
Couldn't believe it when I saw the FEMA, etc. conference...they were in full "assessment" mode... No immeidate responses to unusual situations.
--- 9 feet of water expected in the east bank within the next 12 to 15 hours ---

So right, it is like a slow motion emerging hell. I cannot even respond to the new bad news. I have given up on NO but then I don't know if that is right or not. Maybe an heroic effort to plug those levees. It
just seems too horrible."
Suck it up girl, it may get worse before it gets better. We need your fire.
To: MEG33
Wal Mart opened it's doors and said come on in.. That's good. WalMart is also donating to the Salvation Army.
To: PhiKapMom
how do you repair a levee anyway? do they have to isolate the break somehow, pump out that segment, then backfill it?
and how are they going to pump out the city?
To: PhiKapMom
If NO is about to be under 9 feet of water in the next few hours, it explains Mary Landrieu's face at the presser,,she looked like she was falling apart.
I cannot believe it. If so, hell will have arrived in full force.

"not sure what to really think about that..."
What I think is that southern LA is in a 'triage' type of emergency situation, and they have to save humans first. We'll be very lucky if they can save all the humans still in NO, and they cannot spare resources to save animals, no matter how adorable. PETA and the Discovery Channel may complain, but every possible resource must be devoted to saving as many human lives as possible.

I know..I was just reporting the news..I cannot imagine being stuck in that city..There is worse wind and surge damage than in NO..but somehow the road and bridge damage make NO harder to escape and then there's the rising water.
