bad news, indeed
So right, it is like a slow motion emerging hell. I cannot even respond to the new bad news. I have given up on NO but then I don't know if that is right or not. Maybe an heroic effort to plug those levees. It just seems too horrible.
Ah, a detail I hadn't considered...thanks.
But, truth be told: Every time President Bush takes charge, I exhale and know the best solution is at hand.
I'm looking forward to his presence and leadership through this national crisis.
This is starting to turn into "Escape from L.A." In fact, I predict we will be seeing the made-for-TV-movie on the small screen this fall. Who will play Gov. Blanco?
Saw somewhere that W is considering borrowing fuel from our allies and from EU.

"True, with limitations. If you have spare money to invest, companies that make pink fiberglass and sheetrock look good to me.
If they sit under water too long, the studs and sill plates will get beyond salvage...that means a new frame, with only the foundation worth saving."
That has been my experience. The best situation is a quick flood with waters disappearing quickly. Some of the framing always has to be replaced as it simply cannot be recovered.
We had a good number people sandbag their homes, not to keep them from flooding, but to eliminate the current and it seemed to work pretty well.
For those of you who think these are small things indeed, you tend to get real practical, real fast when the waters begin lapping at your home.
Ignore the idiot Paula Zhan who just said the failure to fix the breach will add an additional 12-15' of floodwaters to New Orleans. Nonsense, the truth is that it is predicted to now flood to about 3' above sea level, submerging areas that sit 9-12' below sea level.
And this is what's been nagging on me through the whole thing. The officials (Governor, Mayor) act as though they had no idea that something like this might happen. There were living in "la la land" or in a total state of denial not to have plans in place for a levee break, even if it was a Cat 1 storm.
Almost lost? I don't know anymore.
Japan has offered some of their reserve.
You are tireless, NN. Thanks for keeping these threads moving and updated. A blessing on your head.
The problem of erosion loss is easily fixable IF the will can be generated to do so. All that is necessary is to cut an east-west channel across the Mississippi Isthmus and stop the flow of silt from dropping over the edge of the "continental abyss" as it does now.

So do the Mods actually sit someplace and have to read all these posts?
We all sit in our own homes/offices on our own schedule and read threads that interest us. We rely on the abuse reports and a few other tools we have to alert us to problems"
"...a few other tools..."
The FR Mods have cracked and subverted Echelon.
We are doomed.
Jeff Goldblatt on Fox just said that water is still rising in the French Quarter and it is now knee deep there.
FYI, guess what, sandbagging the lake failed.
I was afraid that would happen.
You can't expect some bags to hold back a lake.
That just upsets me so much.
Praise God for that at least.
