NEW ORLEANS (AP) — With much of the city emptied by Hurricane Katrina, some opportunists took advantage of the situation by looting stores.

snip...

Denise Bollinger, a tourist from Philadelphia, stood outside and snapped pictures in amazement.

"It's downtown Baghdad," the housewife said. "It's insane. I've wanted to come here for 10 years. I thought this was a sophisticated city. I guess not."

snip...

Around the corner on Canal Street, the main thoroughfare in the central business district, people sloshed headlong through hip-deep water as looters ripped open the steel gates on the front of several clothing and jewelry stores.

snip...

Looters filled industrial-sized garbage cans with clothing and jewelry and floated them down the street on bits of plywood and insulation as National Guard lumbered by.

snip...

"To be honest with you, people who are oppressed all their lives, man, it's an opportunity to get back at society," he said.

that was his only post in over a year....which is probably why he's gone now. Making up stuff and labeling other members as racists on your first post kinda makes that happen.

Why is a 'TOURIST' at the center of this article? What the Hell is a tourist doing down there already?

Duh! That would be a tourist trapped there that couldn't get out.

If you didn't have a ticket to leave before the storm, you couldn't get a flight out.

I would guess that the question is...what do we do to stop the looting?....shoot the folks!...I think not.

But, what we are experiencing, is a harbinger of things that can happen when, society breaks down....

I urge increased vigilance, at the borders and airports...OBL, would love to attack now....

Hell the water is already horribly polluted. Might as well shoot and float a few looters in it.

Shoopolluflooting: A new word describing the new sport of shooting looters and floating them in polluted waters.

Sorry, hehe, I just had my second root canal in a week and sometimes humor raises it's head at an inappropriate time.

The looter rationalized the theft by saying he had to feed his family - What do they eat? Gold jewelery and swede suits??

Shoot to kill!

"Why doesn't the national guard just do a flyby and gun all the looters down? "

Don't they have to impose Marshall Law first? Along with Rammstein no doubt.
