CRAWFORD, Texas - War protesters camping out near President Bush's ranch prepared Monday for a three-week bus tour to spread their anti-war message to people and lawmakers in 25 states.
Three buses were to depart Wednesday from the makeshift camp started by Cindy Sheehan along the main road leading to Bush's ranch, protesters said. Sheehan arrived Aug. 6, soon after his Texas vacation began, and vowed to stay until month's end unless he talked to her about the war that claimed her 24-year-old son Casey's life.
Since then, several thousand people have visited "Camp Casey" for a few hours, days or weeks.
"We had no idea the ditch in Crawford had such phenomenal acoustics," said Nancy Lessin, co-founder of Military Families Speak Out, one of four organizations sponsoring the Bring Them Home Now Tour.
"There's a momentum building across the country ... and we intend for every member of Congress to hear our messages from Camp Casey loud and clear," she said.
The tour will end with the three buses meeting in Washington, D.C., for a Sept. 24 anti-war march organized by United for Peace and Justice and the ANSWER Coalition.
FreeRepublic.com and other conservative groups are planning counter events in the nation's capital that weekend, said Kristinn Taylor, co-leader of the group's Washington, D.C., chapter. FreeRepublic.com was part of a large pro-Bush rally in Crawford on Saturday.
Taylor said many Bush supporters want to make sure their voice also is heard, "especially military families who have been serving silently with their relatives. They realize it's important for them to speak out now."
Pro-Bush rallies also are expected in cities along the bus tour, which will follow northern, central and southern routes. In some cases, protesters may walk into the offices of a Congress member, Lessin said.
Sheehan will be on the southern route, with its first stop in Austin for a Wednesday afternoon rally. Its next event will be Friday in Houston, the district of U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.
Sheehan will leave the tour after that for other events, but other relatives of fallen U.S. troops and families of soldiers still serving in Iraq will be on each bus.
Bush has said he sympathizes with Sheehan, but his aides have said there are no plans to change his schedule to meet with her. His vacation is to end Friday.

Good question...
You might consider spelling words the same way others do - I'm having a hard time figuring out what you mean by "I have those hippies".
Actually according to a WashPo/ABC poll. Cindy and her elite billionaire backers have had zero impact on Americans re getting out of Iraq.

CONGRATULATIONS FREEPERS! Sheehan, Media Failed to Win Battle of Crawford (WaPo-ABC Poll)

Cindy Sheehan and her supporters in the mainstream media failed in their efforts to radicalize the American people against the war in Iraq, according to a poll by The Washington Post and ABC News to be released later today at 5 p.m. EDT.
The telephone survey of 1006 adults conducted August 25-28 showed no movement in either direction for opposition or support to the war. Eighty percent said Sheehan's three-week long protest outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas while he was on a working vacation there had no effect on their position on the war. Ten percent said her protest made them more likely to support the war in Iraq, while an equal number said her protest would make them less likely to support the war.
Mrs. Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq last year, arrived in Crawford on August 6 demanding a meeting with the president. Aided by anti-American groups that have expressed support for the so-called Iraqi resistance, including Code Pink and Veterans for Peace, Mrs. Sheehan was able to dominate the news for the month of August with the help of a sympathetic national media which failed to report the most basic facts about her and her supporters.
Thanks to the research of Freepers, the American people were able to learn about Mrs. Sheehan's extremist politics and her disengenuousness.
Freepers were first to report that Mrs. Sheehan had previously met with the president and that she was telling a wildly different story of that meeting from her initial account told to her local newspaper right after the meeting.
Freepers also discovered photos of that meeting that showed Mrs. Sheehan holding the president's hand and leaning in to receive a kiss on the cheek from him.
Freepers researched and reported Mrs. Sheehan's extremist statements about Israel and her pronouncements that she was refusing to pay her taxes in protest against her son's death.
Freepers found her comments supporting convicted abettor of terrorism, Lynne Stewart and also reported that the groups involved with Mrs. Sheehan in Crawford had explicitly sided with the so-called Iraqi resistance through their endorsement of the World Tribunal on Iraq.
Freeper research also unearthed a video of Mrs. Sheehan calling terrorists who crossed the border in to Iraq to join Al Qaeda "freedom fighters" in an interview with CBS News' Mark Knoller on her first day in Crawford--which CBS and the other media at her press conference failed to report.
That video now serves as exhibit one for how the mainstream media covered up for Mrs. Sheehan from day one in order to prop her up as the latest tool of their campaign to destroy the presidency of George W. Bush.
Thanks to the efforts of Freepers, Mrs. Sheehan and her allies in the media and on the left failed to instigate the prairie fire of rebellion against the war in Iraq they thought would surely follow.
While they will blame Karl Rove and the White House for Mrs. Sheehan's failure, we know it was the patriotic Americans at FreeRepublic.com who fought the good fight in the arena of ideas.
Why don't they go to Louisiana and give a hand...as long as they obviously have so much civic concern and funds and time to spare.
Where in Austin?
Neil Boortz reported this morning Sheehan is headed to Maine to protest the Blue Angels. Slogan: Stop promoting the military/industrial complex.
Looks like that Indian might make some of these schools that are fighting to keep their Indian team names, MIGHT want to re-think...
That isn't a warrior...that is a weenie!!!
Houston, huh ? Any freepers planning a counter protest ?
We're working on a big freep of these disgusting people in Austin. Anyone in the area is welcome to join us.
If they cared they would drive to New Orleans and help with the clean up effort.
Well, the driver was caught, was either delayed or arrested (as I recall), and the vehicle was impounded.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy-LOL.
Nobody cares anymore. This story is dying a slow death.
WHY DOES THIS REMIND ME of a hollywood PR campaign before a turkey of a movie?
This is so OBVIOUSLY fake as to be beyond credibility that the MSM is "falling" for this.
The MSM WANTS this so the OMIT intentionally how this was rigged.
Are they looking at the dates the permits were pulled? When the busses were rented? When the MOBS were rented?
Here we see "Sitting Bull" meets "Full of Bul$hit"!
I see she went to the Bill Krintong School of "How to fake tears on cue"!
I know. But this country is so full of idiots no one will bother asking those questions.
Gosh darn, Cindy is crying with the Indians now. Wheres the Indian on the side of the highway when you need him.
They are just feeding this womans INSANITY. Seriously, we need some kind of Psychologist to simply say what the left is doing to this woman is abuse.
They are feeding her delusion.
This is like the 60's when the hippies thought a "love in" or a "sit in" would spark the world to rise up against "the man".
Hilary obviously supports this madwoman because she has not reputiated her. Mainline democrats support her because they don't speak against her.
How many rank and file democrats realize SHEEHAN IS SAYING SHE IS THE VOICE OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY? yet they remain registered democrats....
The momentum that the ap is talking about that is building... that must be the bile in my throat coming up
