Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

"It's a Dark..Eerie..Lonely..Scary..Depressing and Dangerous Place".
It's a Dead Zone, IMHO.

Yep, part of the "Act of God" crap they use. My grandma's basement caved in one year flooding it (part of the Mississippi flood of '94). It's devestating for people. What do you think will happen for people who's insurance won't cover it. Are they just SOL?
I suggest you fast for the next couple of days to see what it feels like.
Regarding the location in the picture, where is that water coming from, the river or the lake?
hard to believe all the NO cells of the state trunked system have failed...
Western NY is just getting the front bands of Katrina (light rain right now). From my local radar, looks like Ohio and Illinois are getting pounded in heavy rain and T-storms. Man, she moved quickly.
Thoughts and prayers to everyone on the Gulf Coast!
Oh no did you see that sea lion?? Please save him.
We've taken in temporarily lost souls for years, but those were people who had at least the possibility of other resources. Most of these folks have lost everything without even the sight of resources on the horizon in the near future. I'm so far away, and just sending money doesn't seem to be enough...it might keep some people alive for now, but where do they go then? It's a sincere offer.
Right on! :)
What website do you use? I used to do a lot of SW utility listening, but my shack is out of operation right now.
Yeah. Your God sends misery to millions of people because YOU don't like drinkin' and gamblin'.
Just wow.
Definitely falls under the category of "too much information."

A bit oversensitive, aren't you? I'm talking about trying to evacuate tens of thousands of people out of striken cities with the least amount of effort. Nothing more than that.
indeed
Cool use of Google Earth. I was going to do some of that when and if I had locations for the before and after photos.
Get a clue, bub, on priorities.

What about the guns & ammo they stole from a sporting goods store? Cleaned them out I tell you.
"Thou shalt not steal" (NO EXCEPTTIONS placed before or after that rule.)
Biblical commandments notwithstanding, in a survival situation my family comes first, me close behind because they need me, and the rules last.
I would not kill another person to take his assets, but I would take anything I found unguarded that would keep me and mine alive, and then deliver myself to law enforcement only after I was sure they were safe.
I wouldn't steal weapons or ammunition, because I would not be caught in a situation where additional quantities were necessary.
These are concious decisions on my part, but in New Orleans and the surrouding areas, you see and will continue to see this type of decision beig made as a simple exhibition of human nature.
Condemn this if you must, but do not expect it to change, not this century anyway.
That was my meaning.
Not so sure they won't use them against LE and the NG when they try to arrest them or stop the looting.
>Any ships there or on their way yet?<
I haven't heard yet.
Just think the Super Dome was the last resort. They line the folks up. Take any contraband. Now moving into 3rd Day heroin and crackheads need a fix bad but they won't let them out. Things starting to get testy inside the Dome. As reported on CNN guy takes a dive from the upper deck. That is not a place to be in right now.
