Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

Agreed.
I am watching CNN.
Fox frankly sucks at this story.
They need some better people and some SERIOUS, MAJOR training on how to cover breaking news.
You're right. We even discussed evacuation from NO, and compared it to evac from Tampa Bay (how the EOC's and Jeb ordered it in stages and it started three days before Charley was supposed to hit.)
Then I don't understand what those folks on WWL are babbling about. Of course, with the newsies constantly interrupting the science guys, who knows what they really are saying.
I had to turn it off; the constant interruptions every time the science guys tried to say something was really annoying.
Next step - "check day", September 1, when the mail can't get through...
I thought the poster was refering to those in charge in NO. I think the whole thing was a misunderstanding.
So all the lower spots are not underwater???only thing left is the highground??
It will be a sad day
Many prayers for the people down there
The Tp building flooded, all windows out. Of course they left the city. Everyone who can is leaving.
I recommend you have this post deleted. Otherwise you'll spend the rest of the day explaining its innocent meaning, one person at a time.
Not true - it's at a relatively high elevation.
I have definitely gotten the opinion that in Shep's mind, the fact that his high-priced hotel in the French Quarter wasn't ruined, that is enough evidence that it "wasn't that bad!"....sheesh!
The problem is, we see the same inability to think outside the box in programs such as the space shuttle. So it is, IMO, much broader than just cost limitations. It's about being unable and unwilling to think outside the box and demanding that some other government agency deal with the details.
But I really don't want to talk about this any more until much later.
On my local Baton Rouge Tv station.
He meant who cares if they're Republican or Democrat. He was responding to an earlier post when someone asked what they're political offiliation was. He's actually taking some heat for saying the right thing.
I apologize for my snarky comment about your nick; I should have kept reading.
the LSU professor is doing great explaining the levee system and the breaks, etc. I don't know who is the (male) host, but he is driving me NUTS because he keeps interrupting and overtalking the details! grrrrr..........
