Don’t go there, Mrs. Hughes
Jewish World Review ^ | 8-30-05 | Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.

She would be well advised to seek the counsel of authentically peaceable, pro-American and anti-Islamist Muslim leaders

Karen Hughes, confidant to George W. Bush and master political strategist, has recently returned from Texas to take on one of the most important and heretofore thankless tasks in Washington: Waging the "War of Ideas" component of the present global conflict against the "evil ideology" best described as Islamofascism.

The starting point for Mrs. Hughes' vital work has to be an understanding that not all Muslims are adherents to this virulently intolerant ideology. Strategies for defeating the latter must, of necessity, involve reaching out to those Muslims who genuinely reject the Islamists and their goal — the violent imposition of a world-wide "caliphate" subject to a Taliban-like religious code, Shari'a.

In the wake of July's London transport bombings by home-grown British Islamists, the dangers of mistaking one type of Muslim community for another have become obvious. Prime Minister Tony Blair's government has gone from ignoring Islamofascists in its midst — if not actually accommodating their efforts to proselytize and recruit in Britain — to cracking down forcefully on their activities and presence in the United Kingdom.

Unfortunately, in the past — and most especially after the 9/11 attacks, the Bush Administration's efforts to engage in such outreach have been characterized by a similar unfamiliarity with the distinctions between Muslim organizations that profess hostility to Islamofascists and their causes, and those that actually reject the terrorism and ideology of groups like al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad.

Hughes is saddled with a "can't win" job here. Dillatantes everywhere scorn all real attempts for better understanding of complex issues like this little doozie.
Look for the fine rennaisance hand of backroom Demoscats as they try mightily to undercut the President and his emmisary Karen.

It would be good for Karen to talk to the moderate moslems and get them on our side. There's only one problem - there are no moderate moslems

If you've ever read the koran you see that the taliban is the most accurate face of islam and every moslem is, by command of their scriptures, a terrorist.

I am so glad Clinton, or Kerry, is not President.

If post 9/11, the American Government was continuing to genuflect to the most despicable Saudi supported terrorist loving Islamic organizations, Conservatives would march on the White House.

Bush is President and the White House is safe. Whew.

I thought the article proved that the Administration reach out has been to American hating terrorists. I must be one of those dilettantes.

On the other hand, maybe this is a new tactic by the Administration. A subtle signal to Law Enforcement everywhere. If you see the Administration "reach out" to a Moslem organization, consider them terrorists and act appropriately.

  • Islamic organization which enforces extremist Wahhabi theological writ in America’s mosques
  • “America has to learn, if you remain on the side of injustice, the wrath of God will come.” -- former ISNA president Muzammil Siddiqi

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) enforces Wahhabi theological writ in America’s 1,200 officially recognized mosques (out of a possible total of 4,000, including unrecognized and small congregations). In the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, former ISNA president Muzammil Siddiqi appeared as a goodwill ambassador in an official ceremony at the National Cathedral in Washington. But some 10 months earlier, on October 28, 2000, Siddiqi had asserted, "America has to learn, if you remain on the side of injustice, the wrath of God will come. Please, all Americans. Do you remember that? If you continue doing injustice, and tolerate injustice, the wrath of God will come."

Many of the main mosques in the U.S. were recently built with Saudi money and saddled with a requirement that they follow Wahhabi imams and Wahhabi dictates. But Wahhabi domination of American Islam involves much more than control over money and the elected governing assemblies of mosques; it also means dictating the curriculum for the training of Imams, setting the tone and content of sermons, deciding what books and periodicals may be read in mosque libraries or sold in mosque bookshops, and excluding or otherwise suppressing dissenters. According to one informant who requested anonymity, Wahhabi Imams in American mosques until recently received salaries of between $2,000 and $4,000 a month from the Gulf states.

Testimony to this effect comes from (among many others) Kaukab Siddique, the radical editor of New Trend, an Islamic periodical of extremist views that is nonetheless opposed to Wahhabi domination of American Islam. Siddique stated: "ISNA controls most mosques in America and thus also controls who will speak at every Friday prayer, and which literature will be distributed there."

ISNA was a signatory to a February 20, 2002 document, composed by the radical group Refuse & Resist, condemning military tribunals and the detention of immigrants apprehended in connection with post-9/11 terrorism investigations. Titled "National Day of Solidarity with Muslim, Arab and South Asian Immigrants," the document read, in part: "[T]hey [the U.S. government] are coming for the Arab, Muslim and South Asian immigrants. Based on their racial profile, over 1500 have been rounded up and the government refuses to say who they are, where they are jailed and what the charges are!!! Already, a Pakistani man has died in custody. Who will be next? The recent ‘disappearances,’ indefinite detention, the round-ups, the secret military tribunals, the denial of legal representation, evidence kept a secret from the accused, the denial of any due process for Arab, Muslim, South Asians and others, have chilling similarities to a police state. We will not allow our grief for the tragedy of September 11 to be used to justify this new repression. We are clear that being an immigrant is not a crime; Muslims, Arabs and South Asians are not terrorists."

ISNA endorses the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride Coalition, which seeks to secure ever-expanding rights and civil liberties protections for undocumented workers, amnesty for illegal immigrants, and policy reforms that diminish or eliminate restrictions on immigration.

ISNA chose not to endorse or participate in the May 14, 2005 "Free Muslims March Against Terror," an event whose stated purpose was to "send a message to the terrorists and extremists that their days are numbered . . . [and to send] a message to the people of the Middle East, the Muslim world and all people who seek freedom, democracy and peaceful coexistence that we support them."

ISNA views the Patriot Act as an affront to Muslim Americans and advocates that it be overturned. At a recent national convention, ISNA sponsored a "workshop [that] showed how Muslims can work with their congressional representatives to repeal the Patriot Act. Seminars were also held on how to join political campaigns to elect candidates who will fight for Muslims' rights."

Sheikh Mohammed Nur Abdullah is the current president of ISNA. According to the organization's biography of Abdullah, who came to the U.S. from Sudan in 1978, he received a B.A. degree in Sharia, or Islamic Law, from the Islamic University in Medina, and a Masters degree in Sharia from the Ummal Qura University in Makkah. He also earned a Masters degree in Islamic Studies at the University of Chicago, where he is now working on his Doctorate. Abdullah is the Imam and director of the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis and
a member of the Sharia Scholars Association of North America.

Hadia Mubarak, who serves as President of the Muslim Students Association, which has held many conferences in support of Hamas and Palestinian terror, sits on ISNA's board of directors. Muslim Youth of North America chairman Omar J. Siddiqui is also a member of the board.

enforces Wahhabi

Maybe Karen Hughes can convince them to change. But for heaven sake I hope she doesn't start off with them on the wrong foot by driving herself to the meeting.

Have to be careful meeting with them. A couple years ago we detained an Iman from Canada because he had a ISNA business card in his pocket, later deported him. Hopefully for more than that. I'll see if I can find the story.

You are so right. We will immediately stop the beheadings, maimings, stonings, and the mistreatment of our women. We will also stop our young people from suicide bombing innocent people. Heck, we'll even stop wishing all the Jews were dead!

The guy is an absolute pantload, but aren't they all?

read the rest of my post. The koran commands moslems to be terrorists. Eventually every moslem (or his kids) will either line up with his chosen religion and commit terrorist acts against non-moslems or he will abandon islam entirely. To be moslem is to be terrorist.

.....that not all Muslims are adherents to
this virulently intolerant ideology.

Says who? This is the problem with Islam. There's no one to say whether or not this is true. I, for one, would love to believe it.

But at this stage of its theological development, Islam is not what Muslims say, it's what they do. Or, what they don't do, which is crack down on those whom they say are not truly representing them. Unfortunately, it would seem they only say that to us infidels.

You have to go back to the scriptures. The sad truth is that the suicide bombers, the honor killers, the beheaders, the rapists, the terrorists in general are doing what the koran tells them to do. The 'moderate' moslems are the ones who are not following their own religion.

The war on terror ends with the death of the last moslem, or the death of the last non-moslem, the koran leaves no other possible solution

The argument ( or excuse ) has been made that "Moderate" muslims are afraid to speak out in criticism because of possible repercussions.. recrimination, threats, ostracism, etc..

Mrs. Hughes response ( and that of the administration ) should be that such a position is verification that "radical Islam" has in fact, taken over the religion..

If so-called moderates, which are supposedly the majority, are afraid to speak out in support of moderation and human rights, non-violence, etc., and against terrorism, honor-killing, rape, murder, etc., then the average muslim is a terrorist, a killer without consciounce..

If so-called moderates cannot speak freely, without fear of retaliation, then the entire religion of Islam is terroristic, a religion of oppression...

If Islam is indeed a religion of tolerance and moderation, then it must take charge of it's religion and philosophy..
It must prove the veracity of it's claims through action, not a dialogue of deceipt, of deception...

For a majority of the adherents to a religion to be afraid of "a few malcontents" is the height of hypocrisy...
If Islam, and Muslims did not support terrorism within their Mosque and home there would be none..

At the very least, the terrorists would not be in charge..

Have you vere read the koran? I have. And it commands the moslem to fight against the unbeliever near to them. Between the koran (which is the official scripture of islam) and the hadith (which are the other writings of and about mohammed (piss be upon him) and which encourage deceit and treachery in order to gain victory) the moslem is commanded to be a terrorist. There's no way to reconcile islam with civilized peaceful co-existence. The war ends when the moslems all die. Their scriptures command it.
