Cindy Sheehan and her supporters in the mainstream media failed in their efforts to radicalize the American people against the war in Iraq, according to a poll by The Washington Post and ABC News to be released later today at 5 p.m. EDT.
The telephone survey of 1006 adults conducted August 25-28 showed no movement in either direction for opposition or support to the war. Eighty percent said Sheehan's three-week long protest outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas while he was on a working vacation there had no effect on their position on the war. Ten percent said her protest made them more likely to support the war in Iraq, while an equal number said her protest would make them less likely to support the war.
Mrs. Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq last year, arrived in Crawford on August 6 demanding a meeting with the president. Aided by anti-American groups that have expressed support for the so-called Iraqi resistance, including Code Pink and Veterans for Peace, Mrs. Sheehan was able to dominate the news for the month of August with the help of a sympathetic national media which failed to report the most basic facts about her and her supporters.
Thanks to the research of Freepers, the American people were able to learn about Mrs. Sheehan's extremist politics and her disengenuousness.
Freepers were first to report that Mrs. Sheehan had previously met with the president and that she was telling a wildly different story of that meeting from her initial account told to her local newspaper right after the meeting.
Freepers also discovered photos of that meeting that showed Mrs. Sheehan holding the president's hand and leaning in to receive a kiss on the cheek from him.
Freepers researched and reported Mrs. Sheehan's extremist statements about Israel and her pronouncements that she was refusing to pay her taxes in protest against her son's death.
Freepers found her comments supporting convicted abettor of terrorism, Lynne Stewart and also reported that the groups involved with Mrs. Sheehan in Crawford had explicitly sided with the so-called Iraqi resistance through their endorsement of the World Tribunal on Iraq.
Freeper research also unearthed a video of Mrs. Sheehan calling terrorists who crossed the border in to Iraq to join Al Qaeda "freedom fighters" in an interview with CBS News' Mark Knoller on her first day in Crawford--which CBS and the other media at her press conference failed to report.
That video now serves as exhibit one for how the mainstream media covered up for Mrs. Sheehan from day one in order to prop her up as the latest tool of their campaign to destroy the presidency of George W. Bush.
Thanks to the efforts of Freepers, Mrs. Sheehan and her allies in the media and on the left failed to instigate the prairie fire of rebellion against the war in Iraq they thought would surely follow.
While they will blame Karl Rove and the White House for Mrs. Sheehan's failure, we know it was the patriotic Americans at FreeRepublic.com who fought the good fight in the arena of ideas.
Hey - buddy bitt - some of us know! Count me in.
I understand that not all FRiends do understand.
I've been around quite awhile, at many places. Always a friend.
I know you already know that.
For others - check out http://www.hadit.com
Great job, as usual, kristinn! It was great to finally get to meet you last weekend. I talked to several of the troops at Fort Hood and they were excited that people felt strong enough to go to Crawford last weekend (and before) to show their support. Keep up the good work.
Really? Sandrat? Never fear - you have a whole host of FRiends. First in line - soldiers are here for you! Plus many older soldiers and their FRiends. Let me know if I can help more. I love you Sandrat. Take that to the bank! I love ALL you who serve or who have served prior. You keep us save at home! Well, I'm getting mushy now. I'll stop. Your pal, JLO
scuze me while I whip this out....
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighting Troops
Gotta talk to the Cash lawyers about that one....the b@stards!
Did you watch Brit Hume today? He talked about Cindy Sheehans phone interview with the NPR talk show host. It was very good. He made the point very well, that she cut the call short out of discomfort, as only Brit can do. Then after that he quoted something the NYTimes said about President Bush saying that the Protestors were aiding and encouraging the enemy. He said, "That is not what Bush said." Then he went on to say exactly what he did say. Looks like Brit's on the side of the truth. There are other Fox guys I get frustrated with, though.
MUST HEAR!!!

The silent majoriety, now has a voice. Blogs and talk radio. The MSM can't pull off another Vietnam.....
Well Stated!
You did a hell of a job.
It was good working with you. If you come to Texas again you'd better look me up.
You're more than welcome to stay at the house any time.
I posted this in another thread that was making a statement to the effect of was this rally worth it. This is how I feel about it.
I feel this rally was 100% successful. I am proud and honored to have participated and been in such good company. This will be a highlight in my life and I have made it a point to live my life to the fullest.
I didn't volunteer my services because of what this could do to the left or to necessarily promote the right.
I volunteered my services because it was the right thing to do. I didn't know how large this would be, no one did. When it's time to speak up, I do it. I will not forsake my freedom or the best interests of the American people to apathy. I encourage people to follow. I don't twist arms. If I'm out there by myself making not the slightest bit of difference to the over all picture, at least I know that I'm doing the right thing.
I was a soldier during the first gulf war. I'm educated enough to understand the role the media and the left played in demoralizing and dishonoring our troop during Vietnam.
Most people on this site understand what and who the far left is. These are the groups supporting Sheehan. They don't like America as it exists and they don't have the slightest clue what it is to support the troops much less sacrifice their own lives for freedom and democracy. These people come from the same tree as the Fondas and the Kerrys.
They openly embrace and embolden the enemy as our sons and daughters fall on the battlefield. They have, and rightly so, the freedom to express themselves without retribution from the government. What they put forth is in the worst taste and dishonors America and all we stand for. For me not to put forth the effort to counter them would make my apathy just as egregious and disgusting.
We did this to bolster our troops and to make an effort to exercise our freedom of speech in opposition to the over inflated hype the media pored over a misguided mother with a radical left leaning agenda that is not representative of even main stream democrats.
We will not be silent. Conservatives have learned their lesson. When duty calls we will leave our families and our jobs to make time to let our voices be heard.
You can not support the troops with out supporting the mission.
Never in any other time in history has the mission been any clearer.
Thanks Free Republic for allowing me the honor of assisting you.
It was a wonderful event. I would do it again in a heartbeat with the full knowledge that not a single camera would be present. Just being in the presence of good All American company makes it worth it to me. We can shoot our own video and send it to the troops.
I love and honor our soldiers, and I support their mission 100%
A belated welcome to FR and thank you for your service FFforFreedom! Have you been to the Canteen yet?
Oh, BTW, I noticed you were wondering about photos in another thread. There must be thousands within FR. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/keyword?k=caravan.
I was SO disappointed in media coverage. But it's all right here in photos.
Here's some photo gallery links. Easy on dialup connections - small thumbnail photos. Can click individually to enlarge.
