Emotions ran high for an army soldier's funeral in Martinsville Sunday.
Sgt. Jeremy Doyle's sacrifice, brought many out to honor him but also sparked a standoff on a city street.
People arriving to say goodbye to a hometown hero, met an altogether different scene in Martinsville. Demonstrators dragging American flags on the ground and holding signs opposing U. S. troops.
"The thing that got us here is that Sgt. Doyle died for us to give us our freedom and then you have people like this to come and it's ridiculous. It's absurd," one funeral attendee told News 8.
Tension grew before the demonstrators finally left their location, right across the street from Army Sgt. Jeremy Doyle's funeral service.
According to the group's website, it sees American deaths in Iraq as a kind of punishment for social misdeeds. Martinsville residents said the protesters picked the wrong time and the wrong town to express their views.

Here's a link to a FR thread about this which includes a report on the activity in Martinsville from FREEPER Earthdweller who attended - includes PICS!
Anti-War protest at Soldier's funeral - TOMORROW

Phelps needs to be taken out first. Then Hugo Chavez.
Just like FR has its share of lefties pretending to be Republicans but really aren't who say "I'm a life-long Republican who opposes the war and blah, blah, blah ...", I'll bet if you dig deeper you'll find out that these are lefties just pretending to be anti-homosexual agitators who are there to discredit the people they are pretending to be.
I would've waded into these a**holes with a flailing baseball bat.
Some of our fellow FReepers were there - pics and an after action report

Phelps is for real. He has a long list of such activities. His children have talked about his twisted take on Christianity a long time before this. He's a kook
A marked one.
Phelps apparently hosted a fundraiser for GORE back in '98... Details are on the other thread I linked to above.
One and the same oolatec...
This group is despicable! I guess they have a right to their beliefs (gaaaack, it sure was hard to say that) but to do this at a soldier's funeral?

I don't think so -- these guys are the same crazies who protested Matthew Sheppard's funeral (gay kid who got killed). They've been around for a long time.
Protesting at a funeral -- anyone's funeral -- is horrible beyond words. Prayers for these brave soldiers' loved ones.
Now we know why the left argued under FOIA for the release of immediate info./photos pertaining to the deaths of our Fallen Hero's.
This absolutely disgusting behavior by the left is beneath contempt.
I like your thinking.
"Funeral for Fallen Hoosier Soldier Brought Some Unwanted Guests "
Too bad it didn't also bring an overdue ass-kicking.
"She simply doesn't want any more soldiers to die which is not bad intentioned, just seriously naive."
Not hardly! Her goals are much loftier. Have you read much about her at all?
Has anyone noticed that these scum don't pick a town that has a Major Military Retiree population and/or Active military base. Think there might be a little fear in the reason why they don't pick one of those.
Hmm...I smell Bovine Scat.
I have never met any Baptist who would protest the death of a hero. We Baptists love this country and our military.
It seems like some on here are plants from DU, trying to get us to get mad at an anti-gay group.
I know enough about her to know that she has no clue about what she is talking about. She recites talking points fed to her by leftist groups and shows complete ignorance of the issues. That being said, however, I do think that she doesn't want anyone else to die. Not too realistic when your enemies are hell bent on killing you...
