Savannag, GA - A Savannah man was arrested after he told a 13-year-old girl to hand a note to a bank teller threatening a holdup, police said.
Michael Lyons, 45, told police that he and a group of girls celebrating his daughter's birthday were trying to play a practical joke. The note said "Give me all of your money, this is a stick up," according to a police report.
While Lyons was getting money out of an ATM on Friday, the girl went into the bank and handed the note to a teller.
The teller sounded the bank's alarm and police and FBI surrounded the building searching for suspected burglars.
Instead, they found Lyons and the group of girls.
Lyons was charged with criminal attempt of robbery by intimidation, said Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police spokesman Bucky Burnsed.
"You can't yell fire in a crowded theater, can't joke about a bomb in your luggage at the airport, and you can't write notes to cashier that say 'This is a stick up,'" Burnsed said.

I've stopped being amazed. It seems like whatever the issue, you can find SOMEONE who will come at it from Bizzaroland.
Kindly note post #7.
That's the funniest thing I've seen all day...
As opposed to some idiot (I'm referring to ME here, for you folks in Rio Lindo) being unseries.
I liked laz's old tag line that went something like, "Proudly responding to each thread without reading it since 1998". Or something like that.
Ok, so you think the guy is just a dumba...?
First, is that what you role model and teach young children? Frighten people needlessly? Call police as a joke?
Second, not send him to jail? Ok, how about you fine him for all the law enforcement we needed to send on this joke and my tax dollars paid for? If this jerk wants to play a practical joke on his family or friends..go for it. But when you involve the community you can go to jail.
Final question...what other kinds of "jokes" does he do with these 13 yr old girls?
Or perhaps robbing the drive through?
The funny thing about this drive-through robber is not that he attempted it four times, the funny thing is the tellers at the Bank of America gave him the money the first two times he tried it!
Yes. But luckily as I'd been a customer for many years, and Mom worked at the bank, she already knew who I was and that I was not likely to rob them.
Oh, go ahead. I don't mind.
Sure you can. You just get to be the "real" robber, as this guy found out.
Yep, an incredible dumb ass. From this story, it doesn't appear that he is a bank robber.
First, is that what you role model and teach young children? Frighten people needlessly? Call police as a joke?
Me? Nope, I've never done anything like that. Of course, I'm not an incredible dumb ass.
Second, not send him to jail
I never said that. He could go to jail, just not for attempted bank robbery.
Final question...what other kinds of "jokes" does he do with these 13 yr old girls?
I dont know. Is there something running through your mind?
Im sure youve made some sort of logical fallacy with this final question. You may want to look it up.
Givemeyourmoney..
The police AND the FBI? They 'surrounded the building'? I'm not sure I believe this one, but if it is true it sure beats the crap out of trying to break open a pinata made in China out of indestructible cardboard while you're blindfolded. Happy Birthday!
I wonder what they guy would have done if the girl walked out of the bank with a bag full of cash?
It could have actually happened. What would the guy have done then, came back and said it was all just a joke?
Maybe this was a set-up to see if it would work, and now he has an excuse because it didn`t. Hmmmmm...
Hilarious.
