New thread! BTTT
I thought you were supposed to be getting some sleep....
placemark. (Thanks, Nauti!)
Katrina spinning off plenty of tornados. Many radar sites down. Lots of FReepers looking for local reports.
New tornado warning for Jasper Co., GA. (east of Atlanta and south of I-20)
The individual storm cells are moving south to north at 30-40 MPH.
Back at you for Kramer and Vandelay: LOL.
Speaking of plain speaking, did you just now hear Haley Barbour talk to those who wanted to rubberneck on flooded roads?
"You don't have any business being on the roads anyway."
We have several members who are desperate for any news out of slidell.
The blonde chick in the rain needs more air time.
CNN reporting that conditions along the Mississippi coast are "Andrew-like". Gary Tuchman is reporting looting in Gulfport (or Biloxi.)

Mayor Ray Nagin said that 200 people were stranded on rooftops in the Lower Ninth Ward and several bodies are floating in the water in the Bywater neighborhood and in Eastover.
Nagin made the announcement in his first press briefing after Hurricane Katrina slammed just east of the city, but did plenty of devastation to New Orleans.
Nagin said that the 200 stranded people included 20 police officers who were riding out the storm at their homes in preparation to take over shifts from other officers. He said that boats would be dispatched on rescue missions later in the afternoon.
Mayor Nagin issued a "boil water" recommendation for water in the city - except for Algiers and the CBD due to a water main line break that may have compromised the water.
Nagin said at least 20 buildings in the city had collapsed and that it might be 48 hours before residents would be allowed back to their homes to assess the damage.

From what I've heard, the situation in Hancock County, Mississippi (home of Bay St. Louis and Waveland) is very grim.
Have you gotten any sleep yet???
Quickly in passing TWC mentioned "40,000" homes flooded in a parish east of NOLA. Not sure how accurate that is.
Getting ugly on these threads. Hope it will be more civil this time.

An hybrid satellite photo/elevation map of new orleans that describes how Hurricane Betsy would have effected new Orleans. Much of the flooding pattern is similar.

This map's estimated flooding levels for Metaire and central New Orleans are similar to what has occured. Simlar, not exactly the same.
I just saw this on streaming TV:
Route 10 overpass of Spain St. Area between Florida Ave and N. Clairborne, and Elysian Fields Ave and Franklin Ave, appears entirely flooded up to first story eaves. From live stream of WDSu channel 6.
Unconfirmed anonymous posts I've read on other sites say there is ~5 feet of fllod waters in low areas Harvey/Gretna due to pump failure.
I hope all those affected have ridden out the brute of this storm. I'm not much of a man of prayer, but you all are in my thoughts.
Thanks for the new thread. I'm looking for word from Columbus, MS. Can't raise a friend at Columbus AFB.
Please post ANY news about Slidell or the West Bank on this thread, please.

Been raining here in N Central MS for quite a while....REALLY getting heavy now. Pouring. I can't tell too much about the wind right now. I am surrounded by huge oak trees but can't see much from inside except the trunks. Thank God this house is well insulated so I can't hear too much of what's going on outside, either. But I have a strong feeling this will be a long, long night.
Hildy, I would appreciate a ping after you talk to onyx again. Thanks.
