I'm back for a second.

We lost power for ~4 hours this morning to to Katy, the (censored)!

It's a mess here, and I hope the people in KY and OH batten down the hatches, 'cause she's still packing a whollop!

According to this report, posted at 6:31 AM EDT, there are breaks in at least 3 levees:

http://ap.wwltv.com/dynamic/stories/H/HURRICANE_KATRINA?SITE=WWL&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=USHEADS.html&CTIME=2005-08-29-18-59-09

"Even with Katrina swirling away to the north, two different levee breaches in New Orleans sent a churning sea of water coursing through city streets."

"Col. Rich Wagenaar of the Army Corps of Engineers, said a breach in the eastern part of the city was causing flooding and "significant evacuations" in Orleans and St. Bernard parishes. He did not know how many people were affected by the flooding."

"Authorities also were gathering information on a levee breach in the western part of New Orleans. Jason Binet, of the Army Corps of Engineers, said that breach began Monday afternoon and may have grown overnight."

"In a particularly low-lying neighborhood on the south shore of Louisiana's Lake Pontchartrain, a levee along a canal gave way and forced dozens of residents to flee or scramble to the roofs when water rose to their gutters."

A little while ago, I saw a reporter on TV updating the status of conditions in the French Quarter. The cameras panned the area showing the beginnings of flooding. Not good.

Thanks for reminder to be ready. Here in NE Ohio we seem so safe from the tragedy that continues to be revealed in the gulf area. The drizzle has already started here & we are told we will have about 36 hours of rain. Guess the wind & spin off tornadoes are the questions/variables.

That's it. www.wwltv.com

Has some informative articles..some clips from different ones :

Mayor Ray Nagin reports the Twin Span Bridge is "totally destroyed" and that 80% of the city is underwater.

Barbour said there were unconfirmed reports of up to 80 fatalities in Harrison County and the number was likely to rise.

Also saying there are two levee breaks per the Mayor.

Their weather forms are heartbreaking to read, but seem to have an update on every parish as well as a list of streaming links.

There's still virtually no information coming out of or about Slidell.

Water is rising in downtown New Orleans. Poydras Street, which had only a few inches of water yesterday now has two feet of water and its still rising.

I was looking for info on Slidell, too. I found this post and have NO idea on if it is at all accurate. Editting the name and some other statements by the poster, they are frightening and I don't want to spread rumors like that. but again it is from the www.wwltv.com then go to there weather forums.

We should have a much more realistic view of what's happening when the sun rises on NO. Although, I suspect FEMA and other officials will hold back info from refugees to prevent them from returning to this chaotic situation.

I have not been able to contact my friends in Mobile - they're actually in Spanish Fort - to get any information on Bay Front. I'm afraid many of the phone and cell lines are compromised, yet feel confident I'll hear from the soon.

I'm praying your home is not in one of the two washed out areas. Keep us posted.
