Well, at least he'd have a fair chance to save his face...if it wasn't torn off and blown away.

Re: "Has anyone reported a 'draft Dan Rather' effort to get an old pro down there to report? Sure would be a nice way for him to go out...speared through the chest with a fence post and blown into the gulf to feed the sharks." Now... That's cold...

I saw him this morning a few minutes ago with FOX & Friends.
My puter is about 5' from the TV.
I watch, type, surf, lurk and rarely change channels! ;-)
He's a cutie!
Hope he is level-headed in his reporting! I don't know his political stance.

What if the road doesn't go that way? Well perhaps they could go over fields. How fast is the eye travelling? I am sure they could make it. Better take some backup trucks in case some break down though

Thanks for answering that question, Quilla. I hope your friends will be okay.

Yes. The generators are now working, but can't handle the a/c.

Reports from NBC Jackson, pumps are down in NO.

When my wife and I were first married, and we would have someone on my side of the family get married, our relatives would always have bloody marys on hand in the mornings during the weekend get togethers.
She had never seen anything like that.
That tradition still holds true. Of course we hold off until after Mass on Sundays. ; )

Yes, and last evening he was at a local tv station being interviewed and as one poster noted - he was so laid back you'd think he was at an opium den (to paraphrase)

What about rivers, buildings, fallen trees, you know, those things that are hard to drive over?

The Superdome won't see sustained winds higher than 120 mph...
To: spanalot
Don't get me wrong those questions should be asked, but they should be directed towards the designers and builders of the Dome. Not some guy with a walkie talkie directing people inside.

Bill Hemmer comes off a bit pompous at times but he's alright. They had a segment that included questions one time at CNN, mostly science, history, etc. as it related to new college entrance exams or some such thing. Hemmer nailed every one while the other CNN doofuss's couldn't answer most of them or answered them wrong(including Mr. Science... Miles O'Brien). So the guy's pretty sharp.

IIRC, the worst case is that the storm comes in from the east but doglegs to the west.
So this is just second-worst case.
My crazy friend who volunteered to work with Civil Defense (not that this is a crazy thing to do) told me last night that Lake Pontchartrain has been very low due to the drought. He said it was two feet below the bottom of the stairs on the sea wall, at least before the storm started.
And of course the River has been very low because of the drought in the Midwest.
So seems like there is the lowest water level in memory, if not history.
Which is a plus.
