Don't quote me on this (unless I'm right, of course), but I think now is the worst time because the winds are blowing south across the lake and into NO.
I'm in NM. Employee just came in and said gas stations all over town have increased price of gasoline by 20 cents/gallon in the past two hours.
Thank you for the updates.. I cannot get MSNBC live feed to run continuously and I am cubicle bound.
Perhaps he was bitten by a radioactive spider
State Senator from La, saying Bernard Parish is 25 ft underwater.
Are you stalking me? It sure seems like it.
Take that somewhere else.
25 feet of water in St. Bernard Parish! Houses with people trapped in attics are now topped with water. Going house to house with army ducks (?).
Geez Laz. You could have make three or four more jokes in the time it took you to apologize!
You couldn't have been all that bad.
"It's a very dangerous situation. I've been doing this for 15 years, and [I've] been Mr. Cantore's producer for many hurricanes, and I've never seen anything like this. This is probably the scariest situation we've ever been in -- just the sudden rise of water and how fast. They said we were good here for 27, 30 feet [of storm surge] -- they've never seen anything like it. They thought we were completely safe.
This has NOT been overhyped.
Your 3y.o is probably more qualified to broadcast the weather than most currently reporting ;)
:)
I was just thinking that! That poor guy! its a wonder he can stand...are the winds still really strong?
"Roof to roof on high-rise buildings? Is he spiderman???"
That's the mental image I got. Just bounding from rooftop to rooftop.
"Brian Williams saying it's still too windy to do more than just step out the dome door."
Brian Williams is no Steve Harrigan.
Thank you so very much for checking in with us--send him all of our best wishes, and let us know if there is anything you need. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
TEN feet of water in downtown Mobile.
"Heard that the worst threat of overtopping from the north should be over within an hour or so. Still a danger from the west for longer, because of the wind shifting from that way, the theory of lots of Lake P
water being pushed SW and S into the spillway, and the west side levee being the lowest at 10'.
Hopefully it won't overtop."
That's good news, but my concerns prioritize breaches above topping, though both are would be far worse than wave topping.
Until those levels go down and the levees resume a consistency with more integrity than toothpaste, I won't rest easy. We're seeing imagery of 3' of ponding downtown now, any additional water will be competing for space with that.
Bump..
Our prayers to you and the refugee families you have given shelter.
Thank you Johnny Crab.
The immediate surge danger is receeding - winds are now out of the west which will push the surge out of Ponchatrain.
However, if there is any kind of breach, if it grows the lake could flood through it. We'll have to see what happens when crews get out to inspect the levees. Hopefully there was only some wave overtopping and no serious erosion or damage.
