What was the comment someone made yesterday - human cheerios floating in a big bowl? Hope not.

Roof, structurally, is not the same as roof cover. My understanding is that a small portion of the cover has come off, but have not heard that the roof supporting structure has been damaged.

Michoud is in New Orleans East, not Slidell, unless they moved it since I lived there last...I wonder how the Folger's plant is doing?

The problem is, a hole makes it much easier for the wind to create a much bigger hole.

This is true...
..Aren't all the major hotels on our beachside still empty....a year later!
I'm talking big hotels like Ramada, Holiday Inn, Raddison, etc.
Still being renovated, and we weren't even ground zero.
Also had a huge church steeple zapped off and embedded in the church upside down.

Contractors building the Superdome also found that it required efforts and techniques that were a bit out of the ordinary, especially in the construction of its roof. For this building, the largest clear span steel structure in the world (as attested to by the new Guinness Book of World Records) is literally held together by its roof. In its flying - saucer-shaped design , the walls of the Superdome literally hang (for want of more descriptive term) from the roof, with the force vectors at foundation level pointing away from the center. Thanks for the correction. But keep in mind that the parts that are "failing" are essentially "sprayed on", and are not themselves structural in any way.

I understand that. I never claimed that I thought the roof integrity was compromised by the loss of cover. I only argued that in this case, the roof IS an integral part of the building stability. I didn't mean the foam, I meant the actual roof structure.

Maybe some in the super dome next time will save money on pre hurricane parties and evacuate. I can,t imagine they have a lot of confidence in that as a shelter now.One such experience would be enough for me.
