Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 8:10:23 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

Just goin' through the recipes. AM 870 disappeared up here in WI awhile ago. They were giving listeners the sound of the wind at the time.

Those in the above ground graves in New Orleans are known as the secret Democrat registered voting block.

Or as some say the difference in most elections.

They got a ton of MRE's from the National Guard. There will be food for those without any tomorrow at the Dome.

You know who they were? (Maybe?)

Oh yeah. Sons of mullet netters who think the world owes them a living. Every one of them couldn't contain themselves when they went to sell items stolen from the folks on Sanibel.

It was a joke. They would put items at the curb if it didn't garner enough money and the cops were laughing at their stupidity.

They won't have it nearly as easy the next time.

""all..its time to stop the normal back and forth chatter now and only post "hard news" i think? agree? "

I totally agree. All idiots out there posting recipes for gumbo or whatever should be suspended. There are many here wondering about the life/death fate of loved ones. Can we please forgo the G.D. recipes to a more appropriate time? DUH!

I didn't think you folks needed no stinking badges.

Mine has a mini digicam and GPS uplink.

Well, that's different. Um . . . I want one too.
No wonder you keep that baby shined up.

Just really glad Art is doing the show rather than Norry. With Norrys off the wall, off subject side comments I'd really lose it.

Well, you'd think after telling people during Ivan to crawl in their attics... with an ax (to hack their way out if it didn't work)... you'd just think they would have thought this over. But no. And now... they are still telling people to hit their attics... can't you see a 80+ year old on a walker or wheelchair doing just that. They've gotten better... now they are telling them to do that; and out of the other side of their mouth, telling them to get in their cars and go anywhere. (This afternoon they were saying this.) Sitting stuck in a traffic jam with this monster storm approaching is just plain "leadership" gone amuck. BTW, there are more to "storms hitting" than "weather" storms.

Where would they go? Lake Charles...perhaps Beaumont. Wouldn't get them ENTIRELY out of the storms path....but both locations should be much better off than NO.

I'll concede that anyplace is better than NO at this point, but at the time they would have needed to start the process, there was some risk that it could hit west of where it is going to - meaning that you might be moving folks into the path of danger. (But, of course not as bad as it is looking like it will turn out.)

The second problem is that it is my guess that the shelters will be packed by folks who got themselves there. I'll try to remember to check tomorrow to see what reports are on that.

To make my position clear, however, let me say that I do agree that the mayor and the governor were way behind the curve on getting things started.

Wow. That's insane.

I heard earlier, perhaps on one of these threads, that you can lean into winds of 80 MPH and the winds will keep you upright.

You expect those evacuated to sit on the gym floor for at least a week?

You need to stop posting, Jeff; you're just showing your ignorance of hurricanes.
