Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 8:10:23 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

This was reprted on CNN. CNN showed a hotel swimming pool that is now the temp. home of 3 Dolphins from a local Aquarium.

Wow. I wonder where they put all the other sea animals. I imagine they had to drain the chlorinated pool and put salt water in.

And why is that? We can't possibly read 30-35 thousand posts per day.

You managed to read this one.

An eyewall replacement cycle is when the inner eyewall erodes and an already formed outer eyewall takes it's place.

Hurricane Gilbert had something like 3 distinct eyewalls at one point.

Generally a replacement means the storm weakens a little, however, since the newer eyewall is a bit further away from the eye itself, the max winds field can expand and potentially cause more damage.

"IT'S A JOKE!! It's what the libs ALWAYS say. Sarcasm. Get it??"

OK. Understand it now, except that I've read it here so many times I'm starting to believe those who write it mean it. Or, maybe it's me who starting to believe it :).

Thanks for explaining this to me. I'm not a very bright guy, yo know.

I wish my Momma was here, she would cook some good banana pudding with vanilla wafers,,,if my children were here I would be making fudge. But it is just me and hubby and I am hiding the hershey's kisses from him so I am rather mean spirited tonite. He has to just settle for scotch.

Hah! I'd bet Mexico will be offering us 40 million "migrant laborers" to rebuild New Orleans. ;)

We are looking at a situation that has the potential to be the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States. With a potential death toll that could make 9/11 look like a picnic. Not to mention the economic impact.

This is an historic, terrible event.

I wish some of you folks would consider this before posting countless idiotic green bean, red beans, etc. posts. It's not entertaining.

You are right about the recipes - most especially on weather related threads - hurricanes and blizzards in particular.
