In New Orlaens? Hold on while I go find my surprised look.
Sigh. . . I've been outed.
All my extended family is in N.O. As far as I know everyone has gotten out, except one cousin who is a fire captain and has to stay to serve.
Another cousin has a house in Slidel on the bank of Lake Pontchartrain. Nice place, with lots of big picture windows, boat dock, etc. I know they're not getting much sleep tonight, as they have to wonder what will be left to come home to.
What do you think Charleston did to deserve Hugo?
That's remarkable; out west it's not unusual for 60-70 MPH winds to overturn trucks and trailers on the highway -- especially on the lee slopes of the Rockies. I was directly behind a travel trailer when that happened.
Well, yeah; Trailers and 18 wheelers running empty or light will blow over When Moving! But cars, moving or parked ain't gonna get picked up and thrown three feet, let alone into the roof of the Super Dome ...
I told you I saw looters! HAHA...
what else would those yutes be waiting for!
Boren is a good guy, but Oklahoma is solid Republican now.
Safety issues and the fact that it takes a lot of people to run an airline -- not just the flight crews, but all the local ground crews, mechanics, cleaning crews, agents, etc.
The airlines couldn't operate without personnel, who were also trying to evacuate.
From an economic standpoint, the airlines would have made good money by getting more flights out of N.O. They are another victim in this horrid mess.
Outed?
That was good, that was real good...lol
I just reviewed Holland's storm surge protection. Wow, those folks have really taken storm surge serious.
NO either needs to build in better protection, or move out of low lying areas.
It will be interesting to see how much damage has been done to NO after tomorrow. Will those figures run higher than the cost of an adequate levy system?
You know we all love you ! Please do keep us posted.
Very true! That's why it was easy to call Oklahoma home after moving here when Kelly AFB TX closed.
Hurricanes here are as common as leaves. Everytime it rains, it floods. Even if one is as far as the Northshore (where my family resides)..it still floods.
.. 6 .. 5 .. 4 .. 3 ..
Okay, let's all do it now......one minute, full bore prayers from all reading this thread.
Our nation was set up for limited government. Our government, and it's taxation syestem, were set up for limited governing. There is a difference in nanny-governing and responsible government by and for people. It is why we have civilized government.
Thanks for debunking the "airlines are to blame" argument.
I worry that several airlines, including Delta, might not make it if fuel prices rise again.
