Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Lost power already in Covington. The bands are pretty bad. Still have a great deal of time till it hits.
This won't be fun.
Ooops, I'm being an alarmist..

"How are they planning on feeding those folks anyhow? Do they think all of them have brought enough food & water for their families for several days?"
Easy, if necessary air drop food, supplies, etc. to nearest dry points of distribution then small boat(those large inflatable life guard/river raft type boats) it in to designated shelters.
Just like it's done in Africa, etc. They should get the type of food rations the military gets while in remote areas to eliminate risk of food rot/food poisoning. Sorry, no KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut...
I hope they can, building a structure like that in hurricane country.
I personally can't imagine it, here in Washington state, home of tall trees, a lethal wind is about 60 mph gusts... If this region ever saw winds like they annually expect in the south, there'd be no such thing as a Douglas fir here.
The latest wobble, after having bumped to the north, is to the west slightly with a deterioration of the west wall. I don't know what that means, except maybe a slight weakening, for the moment.
"Son, you either surf, or fight!"
New Vortex Data Message.
Pressure is up another MB to 904MB. the Winds have NOT decreased.

When is Shep leaving?
Okay I have a question and I may not like the answer, but what about all the pets? Are they being left to fend for themselves? I realize human lives are more important, but I would hate to even think about having to make that choice!
I spent my wedding nite at the Monteleone 40 years ago!!
He just said he'll be broadcasting all night as possible.
Says he's staying. Just said the hotel has steel I-beams and concrete. He sounded like he was a little more relaxed than he did earlier.
Don't forget that most house roofs are ventilated around the soffit and at the ridge or through designated roof vents. The straps that are used to hold the rafters and/or trusses down are not mandatory in most parts of the country, but are necessary in hurricane-prone areas.
Sorry to disappoint you, but the FCC doesn't have the authority to control stations that are cable-only.
I don't think I'd be able to leave my dog behind. In fact, I'm sure I couldn't.
Pretty amazing statement... "pressure is up to 904 mb"...
considering Camille was 908...
The meteorologist at Fox seems extremely concerned about the integrity of the Dome.
pets are being left.
I don't think they are being allowed into the shelters.
I couldn't make that decision.
