Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

We need a midi of Johnny Horton singing "The "Battle of New Orleans.."

In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Col. Jackson down the mighty Mississip
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we met the bloody British in the town of New Orleans.

The NO local TV station reporters just asked the Baton Rouge station reporters which route to take out of NO. I am NOT making this up.

I'd be hightailing it over the Causeway to I-12 or taking Airline Hwy to BR. Last I heard, I-10 was still a mess.

Cloud tops are cooling again and showing a lot of rapid convection in the last hour or so. Next Recon pass is going to be very interesting.

Wonder if it went like this... "you want FEMA funds, order the evacuation"

You know, I'd been thinking the president was probably more charming, but when I read that, it just "felt" right.

Someone set us up the bomb.

what about all those cars on the road

This thing is almost there. If the roads are as crowded as I've heard it'll be bad. If they had started this yesterday, they might have gotten them all out by now. Now is the time to hunker down, not be stuck in trafic.

And, yes, sad story too.

I'd pat these people down too! And when the bad guys get hungry, when they can't sleep, or go to the bathroom, when they start cussing, and fighting among themselves, you'd be glad they weren't armed.

they are searching people in an emergency??? What's going on? The large Taliban population show up??

They're searching for weapons. Most of the people going in are "inner city" types.

You want to be in a packed Superdome when the crackhead gangbanger a few seats down spots "that MoFo who DISSED me last week" ?

I hope they're not waiting too long. The last thing I heard, that's about when hurricane-force winds are going to be in New Orleans.

Per WWL---

Dry air had no effect; "tropical monster;" classic eye formation; low cat 5 strong 4 best can hope for;rainstroms from Alabama to almost Lafayette; big squalls moving through.

Some say "yes", others say "no"..but a FReepmail to me sounds reasonable enough..

"The oil & gas on the surface of the water "could" catch fire but the water itself would act to put the fire out by sucking heat away from the fire. This is why firefighters use a thin spray to fight house fires. The spray acts to remove the necessary heat from the fire."

Thanks to the FReeper who took the time to write me.

You're right, cicero. The press plays to the bad people in our society and people like Jackie get all too little attention. I really take my hat off to her for maintaining her upbeat attitude in the face of all that's going on.
