Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Just switched back over to FNC ... couldn't take any more of Chrissy.
Only half of the residents of Terrebone and LaFource parishes have left, according to a local reporter in Houma. The rest are in shelters, but are likely to go underwater. The death toll could be massive.
I paid 2.46/gal this morning after grocery shopping, and DH paid 2.49/gal at the corner gas station.
thanks interesting info, but it doesn't convince me it will stand , pray it doea.
IIRC, during the big Mississippi floods in the late 90's, severl entire blocks of one ND city burned to the ground..
There goes my Atkin's diet!
Are reporters crazy or what!
True. I heard it.
The storm hasn't hit yet.....he can still get in a car and GO GO GO!
Trying to put it out there that anything that happens isn't his fault - he was just following orders from higher ups.
Earlier today Landrieu was blowing this off as "we heard this so many times before" that I think it was a strategy like the time Congress evacuated and cheesy Lott was trying to make like he had balls.
I think they really thought this was much ado about nothing and was trying to spin it as unnecesssary panic put out there by "others" i.e. Republicans.
Here's GERALDO.... gonnna get interesting now..
I think someone who appeared to be 7 feet tall (I'm exaggerating) gets to have a sweet suite :)
Oh dear Lord. I have tears in my eyes.
On a side note, on our honeymoon, my husband and I did a road trip through the U.S. and stayed at a youth hostel in N.O. that used to be a Civil War hospital.
I've been to N.O. three times in my life and if the potential loss of life isn't nauseating enough, there's the rich culture and history of that gorgeous city that may be lost forever.
New Orleans NBC station signing off local coverage. They're relocating inland, and will be taking MSNBC coverage.
Houma is a ghost town;expecting 6 ft of water; only 50% of people left-very disappointing;squalls coming through;south Lafourche parish expecting to be flooded and uninhabitable;2200 people in Houma in shelter--not enough people have left; conditions rapidly deteriating; unbelievable storm surges expected; very few structures wil be able to withstand this.
Oh no Geraldo on for 2 hours now! Please bring back Bill!
Talk about a carnival...
Jerry Rivers on Fox now!
