Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Anyone know the frequency of the powerful AM station in NO? I can sometimes pick it up. Thanks ahead!
It was so bad in Galveston in 1900 that they took wrecked houses and piled bodies on top to use as fureral pyres.
That's good to hear. Still--it may be a noisy time for you tomorrow.
The same!
It's a video feed constantly updated of the causeway.
Glad to hear you're headed inland. Looks like you'll miss the eye/eyewall, but this thing is just so massive, that doesn't matter much.
(Louisiana Offshore Oil Port) was organized in 1972 as a Delaware corporation and converted to a limited liability company in 1996. Ashland Inc., Marathon Ashland Pipe Line LLC, Murphy Oil Corporation, and Shell Oil Company are LOOP's owners.
The port facility is located in the Gulf of Mexico, eighteen miles south of Grand Isle, Louisiana, in 110 feet of water. LOOP is the only port in the U.S. capable of offloading deep draft tankers known as Ultra Large Crude Carriers (ULCC) and Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC). Along with offloading crude from VLCCs, LOOP also offloads smaller tankers.Weather data from the LOOP facility .. Winds at some 31kts.
Might be a chance it will go slightly west of the very worst possible land fall location.
God Bless and Take Care Friend!
believe it or not.
that is a sad thing too, but I wouldn't expect it to continue when the rebuilding begins.
Shizzle, that's fly!
Yes, but the mushroom also leaves quite a bit of area exposed for "lift". To me, the 'Dome looks like a hemisphere with a sharp edge halfway up. I really don't see anything for the wind to lift on. But like I said, I'm not nearly qualified to be taken literally or seriously =D
yep....
hopefully....
Just out of curiosity, why are there no news reports from INSIDE the Superdome? Are the authorities not allowing the news crews inside?
Max Mayfield on Fox is saying that IF the storm diminishes it would be like an 18 wheeler hitting you instead of a freight train...jeez.
He also said the that STORM SURGE would be worse in East Mississipi than in New Orleans...wow
You're assuming that NYC and LA together can process all of the oil that could be delivered. It ain't gonna happen.
""Oil up $4.67. New Record $70.80 a barrel...uggh.
I'd expect $80/barrel before the markets close in New York tomorrow. ""
"Damn the RATs for blocking ANWR in 2001."
Hurricanes are a double edge sword - the demand for fuel will plummet while all the roads are blocked by flooded newscast vans.
O M G !
That was a good boat. Saved your life. Bet you're older and smarter than that now.
What country will be the first to offer us aid to help the people of New Orleans and other storm damaged areas?
You couldn't pay me to go to the dome.
