A day in the life of President Bush (8/28/05): includes pics of pro-GWB rally in Crawford

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, as he readied the federal government for a massive relief effort, on Sunday urged people in the path of Hurricane Katrina to forget anything but their safety and move to higher ground as instructed.

"We cannot stress enough the danger this hurricane poses to Gulf Coast communities," Bush said as the storm roared across the gulf toward New Orleans and other communities. "I urge all citizens to put their own safety and the safety of their families first by moving to safe ground."

With forecasters warning of a category five storm, the president made sure the federal response would not be delayed by already declaring emergencies in Mississippi and Florida just hours after a similar declaration for Louisiana. Such declarations make federal aid available to assist with disaster relief, but they are rarely made before a storm even hits.

Working from his Texas ranch, Bush participated via videoconference in a large meeting of federal, state and local disaster management officials preparing for the storm's onslaught. Separately, he spoke by phone with the governors of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

The President also spok about Iraq and asked the nation for patience regarding the Iraq War as the Iraqis work toward ratification of their constitution.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The President's schedule is subject to change due to Hurricane Katrina. As of now, his schedule remains as announced. President Bush will stop in Arizona on his way to Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino County, Clifornia on Monday. In both states, GWB will discuss a new Medicare reform program.

On Tuesday, President Bush will deliver a speech at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, California. The speech will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Japanese surrender aboard the battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay on Sept. 2, 1945, to end World War II. He is expected to draw comparisons between Japan in 1945 and Iraq in 2005, as the latter works toward achieving a constitutional democracy.

But on balance, these are two exceptional men who met the challenges of exceptional times.

I agree wholeheartedly; I think that also applies to PM Blair as well.

The Howard Government now has the majority in the Senate which will be, more or less, rubber stamping a lot of bills going through parliament from now on. Which is kinda scary.

Here is a great picture from Crawford of a huge flag that was put together by soldiers' children.

Lots of loving patriotic people there to rally against this creepy Lady.

That was after he won the election in 2000 before algor and the evil left admitted that he had won it.

I was so impressed with his calm at that time. I knew that God was IN this man just because of his demeanor and behavior during that debacle.....

And I was right.

It is mine, too. They look so relaxed and carefree--and yet just a few months later all he** broke loose! God bless them both.

I think what we are seeing from her now is an opportunity to use his death to further her cause and if it had been her son she would have used someone elses.

I do not believe we are seeing grief here maybe some guilt if as we both suspect they were estranged and probably had been since he became an adult with obviously completely differing views than hers.

I just used that pic on the prayer thread last week. :)

It's been around for quite a while. I saw it first on the WH website before the election in November, but I don't know for sure where it came from.

They now say the eye is going to the east of the city, and potentially setting up a worst case scenario for the city because of flooding from the lake.

Please, Lord, protect those dear people!

You sound as if you have similar problems with domestic issues as I do with Blair and his cohorts.

...and everyon was so shocked that he was actually able to handle the situation. What!---they thought he was born in a vacuum instead of into a very politcal family who were very intelligent about what to do in such situations! It made me laugh to see the MSM even at that time trying to portray him as stupid and he just kept outfoxing them! :o)

It's weird isn't it? The UK and Australia have great leaders who are well respected, and rightly so, in the international arena. But they are both a little dodgy on domestic issues.

Hi Oz. A friend has been sending many packages to troops in Iraq. Word has come back that they are elated when they receive her packages. One of the troops is from Australia and she would like to send something special that will be like a touch of home to that soldier. Can you suggest something? Any type of candy or cookies or a food that will keep and travel well to Iraq? Suggestions welcome from anyone else too. Thanks !!
