That's a whole lotta freepers in the path, because this storm is probably gonna cause devastation (tornados & flooding) all up the Eastern US. Camille killed as many people in Appalachia as it did on the Gulf Coast.

Boarding up and battening down here in Baton Rouge. We expect to get the western side of this beast and hope to keep our heads above water.

Someone reported that cajun girl, who lives 50 miles from NO, is in MO (they think). She has not posted for several days.

I'm staying put in Baton Rouge. Appreciate your prayers and also for my family members who are staying in Ascension Parish. I expect to see pics etc. posted on these threads so I can view them when my power comes back on. LOL. I will be here off and on until then. Everybody hunker down and hang on. It is so very comforting to know so many people from all over the states are concerned and thinking of us in Louisiana. I also am so appreciative of all the Louisiana FReepers I have met since these Katrina threads were started. Everyone of them have emailed me and voiced their concern, offered whatever we needed. Thanks and good luck to all.

Checking in. This is Trilla and my family and I live just north of Baton Rouge, LA.

We are hunkerin' down, watching TV coverage of the storm, and, of COURSE, FReeping for as long as possible!

Sunny skies in Madison, MS right now.

One of the women I work with has a brother at FEMA in DC. He says we should expect TS force winds tomorrow 0900, 50 mph at 1300, 60 mph at 1500, hurricane force up to 80 mph from 1800 to 2200. Godspeed to all on the coast and in NOLA. I can't believe my room at the Maison de Ville is going to be ruined but that's nothing compared to what you people downthere are facing. Prayers for all.

I've got chainsaw, truck, and a 9 yo and 6.5 yo small debris picker upper. Let me know if I can help.

TAW

Checking in from Birmingham.

I Will be here until our power goes.

I lost power for 8 days and phone for 7 days when Hurricane Opal came through.

We lost power 3 days, last year when Ivan hit.

Not good...... when it's out for days!

Also, we have family and very close friends in Mobile and Fairhope, Al, and family in Jackson, Ms.

I go to school in Hattiesburg, which is just north of the base. Our RA came around this morning and informed us that classes have been canceled, and that we should probably evacuate if we could. I came back home- home being about forty-five minutes north. They're saying H'burg could have 110 mile an hour winds. I'm afraid South Mississippi's going to get hammered hard. I-59 was thick with traffic; every gas station I passed had lines.
