Not all of the city is below sea level. It isn't? I know you are reserching this. That graphic depiction of NO shown on the tube suggests that it is. Good morning.

My mother and grandmother hated the Red Cross, they gave
blood prodigously during WWII and when my grandfather required blood in England, they sent my grandmother a bill.

Right before Mass I said the Hail Mary for intercession to protect those in harms way, wherever they are.

She finally ordered it; yesterday she asked everybody to PRAY the winds diminished and went on to say that "we can have a good exeprience" and "not to yell" in the evacuation lines."
Dear God.

During Camille, there were 75 I think, who stayed for the hurricane party at that apartment complex which was leveled down to the foundation slab..ONE survived...and I think only 3 other bodies were ever recovered.. I remember seeing a documentary about that

They did, just after that storm. That makes it almost 30 years old. Not good.

the only buses the mayor mentioned - are taking people to the superdome.
many of us saying the same thing - the transportation effort is totally disorganized - plane flights cancelled, no buses, no military airlift - the only thing they are doing is saying "get into your cars". how many people are going to run out of gas in those massive traffic jams?
To: NautiNurse
You're right. You can't stock enough of the stuff. After Hugo the brand and temperature didn't matter. Especially when we had to drive 50 miles to get it.

"Heard the NO mayor say that he "knew President Bush would send us everything we need."
And Jeb has to be going nuts watching the NO officials handle the situation.
To: oceanview
Yeah, the airlines likely cancelled so they wouldn't lose money on the inbound empty planes. So if we paid them, they could have run flights all day today. No need for C5's and you would almost just do away with security screening probably.
To: CajunConservative
And unlike a tsunami, if the pumps aren't working and/or there's nowhere for the water to gfo, the flood won't recede right away. NO could be under some water for quite a while. Which is another reason not to stick around.

My father and his buddies. My father is still alive and he blasts about this every time anyone mentions the Red Cross.

Yep, that's the story I remember seeing on "Storm Stories" as well. I don't recall it being a "Hurricane Party" though...

It's shaping up to do the same with Katrina.I hope you're not in a position to be advising people that, because it's not going to happen.
