Hurricane warnings and watches are posted. Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. The forecast models continue to converge upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this very large and dangerous storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. There have been reports of coastal animals leaving in droves for higher ground. Meanwhile, New Orleans continues to suggest that residents evacuate.

He's full of pee and vinegar. It won't be a powderpuff hurricane like we're using to getting up here in New York.
Uh oh.
weather channel just said RECORD tides possible even in MOBILE BAY!!!AGAIN this is a huge storm area wise and the surge will be high 100's of miles east of the landfall point..
I was just telling my sweetie in freepmail, there are SO MANY people to pray for!
God help them all!
OMG--had a wave of nausea reading that.
And when all the rain flows back into the Mississippi, and down to New Orleans, they'll get hit again. Pray HARD.
The mind boggles...the heart prays..
Historical perspective---in the Great Hurricane of 1938 that ravaged New England, Rhode Island's Watch Hill Yacht Club got picked up whole and dropped into the bay.
It also took away a number of sturdy lighthouses and innumerable houses built to withstand Atlantic fury.
Hundreds of people died.
The Prayer or Blessing Against Storms
Jesus Christ the King of Glory has come in Peace.
God became man,
and the Word was made Flesh.
Christ was born of a Virgin.
Christ suffered.
Christ was crucified.
Christ died.
Christ rose from the dead.
Christ ascended into Heaven.
Christ conquers.
Christ reigns.
Christ orders.
May Christ protect us from all storms and lightning.
Christ went through their midst in Peace,
and the Word was made Flesh.
Christ is with us with Mary.
Flee you enemy spirits because the Lion of the Generation of Juda, the Root David has won.
Holy God!
Holy Powerful God!
Holy Immortal God!
Have Mercy on us.
Amen!
Officials from Plaquemines Parish on WWL-TV are BEGGING people to leave. The last place for the officials themselves to stay if they don't get out is on top of the water works building.
I'm no scientist, but I do seem to remember hearing how the levy system has disrupted silt replenishment and/or water tables, causing large areas of the delta to slowly sink.
I can't help but speculate if someday in the distant future, the city of New Orleans might have to be abandoned to the sea.
Or maybe I just need more coffee.
Sending prayers for all.
I certainly hope everyone heeds the warnings on this one.
Hopefully the news will forget about Cindy and concentrate on getting these people out of harms way.
I will be out until this evening, will check back in.
I know it's callous to say, but he'll soon be out of the gene pool.
Amen
That's definitely an oldline prayer. I like it.
I'm usually pretty squirrely about storms, having grown up in Mobile and experiencing many of these suckers. It's a normal reaction, but with this one I've got a bad feeling. In Modern times Mobile has dodged that nightmare scenario just as NOLA has. I fear you are correct in your assessment.
I know. Unbelievable! I would be so out of there. I e-mailed my cousin to see if they left. Haven't heard yet. Hope that's a good sign.
