Watched a Marine cry today.. feel good cry
budvol

Posted on 08/27/2005 5:46:53 PM PDT by budvol

I was at work today at the dealership... A Marine and his wife walked on the lot... He had his desert uniform on and I spoke with him and he had just been picked up the Knoxville airport and his car was acting up and was back in the shop.

He said he was back from his 2nd tour over there and had been there 1 solid year and was back for a month and going back. I mean he still had Iraq desert sand on his boots. He was big about 6’4 250… maybe 30 years old.

We talked for a good bit… I will not go into that part of it… but he had seen it all. Anyway after talking he and his wife started walking around the lot holding hands and hugging so I left them alone while they waited for their car.

I called my 9 year old son as I do every day… I said… guess who I have been talking with. And when I told him the first words out of his mouth was let me talk to him.

I ask why and he wouldn’t really tell me he just said PUT HIM ON THE PHONE.

So I went and got the HERO and told him my 9 year old son was on the phone and wanted to speak with him. He said sure… I had no idea what my son wanted to say to him.

He got on the phone and in about 2 mins he was crying a bit.. they spoke for about 10 mins or so. I ask what my son said

He said my son said …. I want to thank you for defending this country… and that all his friends at school looked up to sport players or rock stars etc.. but that he looked up to him and if he wasn’t on the phone he would give him a big o hug!

The Marine said to me with all that is going on with stuff like that Cindy bi*ch etc.. that phone talk with a little 9 year old boy made him feel GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He ask me if my son lived close by and that he wanted to met him Monday and get that HUG! Of course …. I said sure.

Tomorrow I am going to Crawford (I'm aware it is the day after) and when I next see my nine year old grandson, I will tell him that I went to support the people who give so freely of themselves so that we may sleep securely each night.

"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Hey, if you see the Marine again, give him a hug from this 35 year old lady.

I know it is not as cute, but I'd hug every one of them if I could.

BTW, congratulations on doing a great job as a Dad. Your son doesn't know yet the gift you are giving him.

I hope your son and the marine not only meet but become friends. Your son was obviously brought up right and that wonderful hero was too - of course they get along!

Thank you for sharing that story - in the midst of all this madness it is a breath of fresh air.

God Bless our Troops and the kids that look up to them!

What a great kid. And what a great dad you must be. Thanks so much for sharing that. I'm teary-eyed, too.

Your son sounds like he's being raised right....This brings back memories of my own father and his memories of the time he was in the Philippines during WWII fighting for our country....You see, my dad was only 16 when he signed up like many others who were anxious to go.He saw alot also.

I thank the Lord ever day for our men and women who lay down their lives so we can enjoy the freedom to spit upon and degrade them when they return..

Cindy Sheehan is but a cheap imitation of a grieving mother.

Ignore them, Budvol - I talk to my daughter on the phone everyday from work - I managed to arrange it so my last break is right after she gets home from school.

Give your son a hug from me (former Air Force jet engine mechanic), and tell him that we all appreciate it.

Take him to Big Ed's over in Oak Ridge sometime - Ed was a Marine, and his son is running the place now - and he was a Marine as well. There's a lot of memorabilia up on the walls, and the pizza is great!
