New London, WI August 17th, 2005 Jonbon Technologies will launch The Grand Old Portal (http://www.GrandOldPortal.com) on August 29th, 2005. The Grand Old Portal is a human-edited search engine of Republican websites on the World Wide Web. This search engine is different from other search engines as it only lists sites that support the Republican Party. Each site that is submitted is reviewed by an editor who then determines if the site will be listed in the search engine.
Webmasters who run websites that support the Republican Party are invited to visit http://www.GrandOldPortal.com and submit their website for inclusion in the search engine. Even though the website will not be launched until the 29th of August, webmasters are still encouraged to submit their websites now for inclusion.
Interesting. I'm curious to see if this will cause any trouble for the other big search engines like google?
Would be nice ... considering Google is a MAJOR supporter of the DNC.
Your response is something I would expect from the lefties.
Not a chance. It will only be useful when you are looking for politically sympathetic companies to do business with. If you need info, you don't want to limit your options.
Actually most of the listings in the search engine right now are blogs or non-profit websites.
I wonder if the Republican Party of Big Government snuck funding for this into their latest "highway" Pork-O-Rama?
Forget it. Even if its techniques are superior to Google, it will not overtake, or even seriuosly damage it...not even among Republicans. The scope is just too limited. Aside from being a conservative, I also enjoy Medaeval & Rennaissance Literature and Computer Science. I won't find either topic on the GOP engine. It sounds good for Political stuff, though.
Wow a lot of negativity, way to stand up for a fellow FReeper. Nice, if you wanted something beyond Republican you could always use another engine. Just FYI, The RHC likes the idea. Good short cut without having to plow through everything, plus several elected officials have expressed interest in linking their sites. OH well I am sure it will still be popular amongst some people!
BuyBlue.org's Rating:
Rating: White - 47 %
BuyBlue.org's Position:
Yahoo! currently has a 47% BuyBlue rating due to political contributions for the 2003-2004 election cycle. Yahoo! is an interesting case because one would think that a company headquartered in silicon valley would be fairly progressive in terms of politics. However, during the 2003-2004 election cycle their CEO donated heavily to conservative candidates. Furthermore yahoo! does have a PAC and this PAC contributed fairly significant amounts of money during the last election, mostly to conservative candidates.
Technically this gives Yahoo! a "neutral" rating, but when you compare them side by side with their direct competitor Google you can see a huge difference in how they do things.
NO the engine is not funded by the Republican Party ... it is not even associated with the RNC at all. As a matter of fact ... the RNC just found out about it Friday via other bloggers on the web.
Thanks for your support defconw ... Yes, the RNC has inquired about the idea and was really excited about it and yes ... several elected officials have expressed interest.
The engine may never take over Google or Yahoo but you never know where it will take us. Remember Google's humble beginnings?
I'm betting it would be.
And he's very much a Junior, in oh-so-many ways like his Gigantic Government daddy. I've read the Bushs' lips - like all professional politicians the lie content is enormous.
McCain and Feingold ae the villians in the Campaign finance reform area. I just love Libertairians they are almost as unreasonable as the the Liberals. A portal for GOP sites posed no threat to you, it's yet another way not to have to book mark a whole lot of sites. Why don't you ease up? I am not really into Bush bashing, maybe you would be more comfortable at the Democrat Underground?
