The yellow ribbon has been co-opted to an extent by those who want to cut and run. The liberal Cafepress, even StormFront have yellow ribbon campaigns.
I do remember the yellow ribbons in the 1st Gulf War. If not for them, among other things, we might have taken Baghdad and taken out Saddam before the first attack on the WTC, before Saddam's birthday in 1996, before OKC ... The elder George Bush could read the political winds of public sentiment. He could read both messages the yellow ribbons sent.
Let's finish what we start, let's give all to finish what we have to do -- our duty to future generations.
The first appearance of yellow ribbons was during the Iranian hostage crisis.
"Let's finish what we start, let's give all to finish what we have to do -- our duty to future generations."
We agree on that point. ;)
If the yellow ribbon has been co-opted by the kooks on the left, to bring the troops home in defeat like in Vietnam, then perhaps we should think of say, the color on the Iraqis fingers after they risked their lives to vote...
was it blue or purple?
