Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part III
NHC-NOAA ^ | 27 August 2005 | NHC-NOAA

Posted on 08/26/2005 10:25:04 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, the forecast models are converging upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. Throughout Friday, the official track forecasts moved west, as Hurricane Katrina delayed making the anticipated northwest turn.

The following links are self-updating.

Did anyone hear Jim Cantore? Is it me or did he seem more concerned about this storm than he has ever been about a storm?

Yeah. He was saying this might be the worst since Camile. He didn't look to happy about it.

Is he in New Orleans? I hope they don't stand in the streets of the quarter as Katrina comes in, they get too reckless sometimes with their reporting, dangerous.

Oh, shoot! I forgot I was on the hurricane thread!

Do I need to ping the Admin Mod to delete the above post w/ the two graphics?

I don't see why you'd need to move them.

It slows down the thread for folks with dialup.

< hits forehead with hand >

They're not HUGE files . . . but still . . .

(neat pictures though, aren't they? I met Laughlin years ago. He lived in a top floor studio in an ancient building in the French Quarter. He was a very interesting and amusing person . . . and his wife was just as neat. She is the model in lots of his pictures.)

Hello,

Jackson Square, what a wonderful place. My husband and I have visited NO at least once (if not twice) for each of the last 7 years. Our "for sure" annual trip is for the French Quarter Festival. This past spring was really nice, just me and Mr. MOgirl. Great food, bands, very family oriented. We were just in the Quarter last Thursday, just had to drive over from MS. This is surreal. I am so worried about the good people of NO and pray that this storm does not do what it could.

Prayers to all in the path, glad to be here with friends, MOgirl

It worries me whenever I see a reporter holding onto a light pole and flying sideways in the wind like a flag!

The last hurricane, some reporter (for Fox I think) was standing on a pier when a bolt of lightning struck VERY nearby. He turned pale and signed off pretty quick . . .

Fox/Bob Breck (Meteorologist) states:

His gut feeling is that this one will be coming in a little West of Houma. A comparison projection was found in the Chenier Caminada cane of 1915 ... 1,000 people died..

He is expecting much worse... worse than Betsy... This is scary because he was 'spot on' in forcasting Dennis. I trust him..
