I can imagine eating bignets and having coffee 16 feet under water... which is where Cafe du Monde will be.

Actually, Katrina could make landfall anywhere within the forecast cone -- not necessarily and specifically New Orleans.

One of these times New Orleans is going to get really wet.

Still heading WSW at 11:00 pm - IMHO, they have no clue where it will make landfall again. But I'm not looking forward to breakfast at Brennan's anytime soon.

Here I thought taxpayers would have to but new boats for yacht owners in Pensacola for the third time.

New Orleans has dodged the bullet several times in the past. Sooner or later their luck is going to run out. Maybe Katrina will be the hurricane that finally floods the city.

Is the prediction of New Orleans drowning going to finally come to pass?

My son is at college in Melbourne, Florida and a good friend just moved to New Orleans.

Oh, great. Not only it might clobber Louisiana, but it will definitely shut in Natural Gas and Oil on the Gulf Coast. We may see $70 per barrel oil.

Hurricane Betsy caused a levee to break in New Orleans in the 1960s, and people who lived through that have stories to tell.

In one case, a family had to get on the roof of the house because any lower point was in water.

The people had to fight critters and creatures for the roof -- snakes and other things wanted the high ground. It was very unpleasant from what I remember of these stories.

From led-zeppelin.com:

When The Levee Breaks
(Bonham/Jones/Page/Plant/Memphis Minnie)

If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break, (X2)
When The Levee Breaks I'll have no place to stay.

Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan, (X2)
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.

Don't it make you feel bad
When you're tryin' to find your way home,
You don't know which way to go?
If you're goin' down South
They go no work to do,
If you don't know about Chicago.

Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.

All last night sat on the levee and moaned, (X2)
Thinkin' about me baby and my happy home.
Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you...
Going down... going down now... going down....

I have family there. They are evacuating and I advise all others to clear out as well.
