Third Source Backs 'Able Danger' Claims About Atta
FOX NEWS ^ | Friday, August 26, 2005 | FOX NEWS

"I am absolutely positive that he [Atta] was on our chart among other pictures and ties that we were doing mainly based upon [terror] cells in New York City," Smith said.

.... Rep. Curt Weldon (search), R-Pa., arranged the media roundtable with Smith. Weldon drew attention to Able Danger by speaking about it on the House floor months ago and has publicly called for the Sept. 11 commission to explain why the intelligence information wasn't detailed in its final report.

Besides Smith, Lt. Colonel Anthony Shaffer (search) and Navy Captain Scott Philpott (search) have also gone on the record, saying they were discouraged from looking further into Atta, and their attempts to share their information with the FBI were thwarted because Atta was a legal foreign visitor at the time.

YOU SAID...."My question is why the Administration and the Republicans on the commission went along with the final report."

Good questions.

heres two more...

Just how good WAS the Able Danger program?

Shaffer (and Ben Veniste too) implied that the program was no longer in existence ("technology no longer exists"). Did somebody delete the SOURCE CODE...and if so...WHY??

I think Gordon is right in one respect. To say that the Wall was erected in order to prevent the discovery of terrorists is over-hyping it. It was placed there to prevent the CIA and FBI from co-ordinating info about BC's technology for campaign $ scandal. The inability of AD and the FBI to communicate re. terrorism was unforeseen. IMO this scenario plays along perfectly with BC's 'it's all about me' attitude and performance.
As always, the cover-up (the wall) was worse than the crime (Chinagate) especially when considering the result (9/11). What we are witnessing now is the cover-up of a cover-up and to hide their incompetence, the Reps on the commission are throwing smoke.

I completely agree with your post.

"Be careful what you wish for."

In the end, I hope this investigation opens up people's eyes about the Clintons. However, there will be a very concerted effort by the Dems (who can be vicious and play dirty even when they aren't sufficiently provoked) and the media to tar Bush with this.

I wouldn't be surprised if the investigation turns people against each other.

I do hope that it doesn't cripple our war effort.

I think the Repubs tend to approach something that is bipartison by genuinely trying to be bipartison.

And as usual, the Dems play dirty and the Repubs get caught with their pants down and look like tools. When will the Repubs learn?

The MSM is running for the hills. Not sure why Weldon had to break this on a Friday afternoon, but it seems like he is giving the 'Rats and the MSM a sort of drip torture, letting it out piece-by-piece as they continue to try to pretend there's nothing there.

It is one of the more fascinating aspects of this story's development. Because the sources have come out slowly, it makes it harder to discredit them and as each one comes out it brings the story back out in the public. If they had all come out at once, the 911 Commission could've tried to discredit them en mass, it's harder to do when the next guy corroborates what the previous guy said.

I wonder if the Swifties had come out piecemeal rather than as a single group if that would've given them even more impact in the long run.

If it looks like a tool, walks like a tool and sounds like a tool,well........ Understand, I'm harping on the Reps. because they are our ONLY chance of getting this out in the open. If they fail to do this, then they are no better than the dis-loyal opposition.

that self-absorbed, egomaniac, jr. dictator who's always reminding us that people hate him guy, O'REILLY, will treat this as he did the Swiftboat Veterans. (He still claims he has a duper-duper investigative team)

Haven't the foggiest. I don't think, however, that you can just hit the DEL button and it goes poof. If it is gone, then someone went to a lot of trouble to 'disappear' it in which case there must be a trail somewhere. The problem is, who in our government is going to take up the challenge to find out. With one party trying to cover up corruption and the other in CYA mode, it don't look good.
Well, time for Nightline, Logan Clement of the Lost Liberty Hotel is supposed to be on tonight. I hre he wants to start foyr other projectsand figure he might be fun to watch. }:^)

Yes, 'skirting Hillary' and her issues. . .seems to be a thing with O'Reilly.

"I wonder if the Swifties had come out piecemeal rather than as a single group if that would've given them even more impact in the long run."

Funny, I was just thinking that Weldon must have learned well from the experience of the Swifties, who first had their press conference all together in May 2004 and were almost entirely ignored by the MSM. When their book came out it got some play, but mainly for the MSM drones to take turns trashing them without bothering to read or respond to the book.

I think Weldon realized he had to spread this out and try to build momentum -- if they'd all showed up in a press conference together it would have been a 1-day story and then the MSM would have ignored it as "old news."

Stumbled across something the other day on FR. The discussion was about how Ben-Veniste helped run out the clock when Bruce Lindsey and Web Hubbell were being grilled at Senate (I think) hearings. The questions were turning to Lippo and Huang. Ben-Veniste used procedural stuff to gum up the works.

Ha! Why am I not surprised!?

"that there were not "Two Attas" but Three Attas potentially on Able-Dangeresque data-mining radar screens prior to 9/11"

Sounds to me that the data-mining set up was pretty comprehensive......must have been a whole warehouse full of computers and top of the line software.

So where did it all go......?

as they continue to try to pretend there's nothing there

They're pretending very, very well.

The old established/liberal/socialist media is America's most ruthless, relentless, and destructive enemy.

***

They will bury this story because they still are the compliant and able tool of the powerful. The new media is but a tiny pussycat............. a nice and good pussycat, though. But small and harmless as of now.

The country is in very deep trouble as long as the old media prevails .......... and they are prevailing. They ignore important issues such as The Fair Tax, The Federal Reserve, the abomination of CFR legislation, the recent Supreme Court decision on private property, etc., etc., etc.

Bad days are ahead folks when the media is so corrupt and consciously keeps the people ignorant.

And this is called freedom. LOL.

I just wonder when the time will come when excellent places like 'Free Republic' are shut down or controlled. I'll have to ask Hillary.
