Must read is an understatement ... there is some stuff in there to make your blood boil, like an experienced soldier not with the unit because he was off testifying and then this:
About two weeks ago, word came that Nohe's case had been dismissed by a judge on 7 August. The Coalition was livid. According to American officers, solid cases are continually dismissed without apparent cause. Whatever the reason, the result was that less than two weeks after his release from Abu Ghraib, Nohe was back in Mosul shooting at American soldiers.

This kind of incredible, on-the-scene reporting just proves how utterly useless the mainstream media is these days. Sitting in their Green Zone hotels sipping latte, reading press releases and "reports" from Iraqi stringers.
The NY Times did an article a few weeks ago wondering why there are no "heroes" from this war.
Meanwhile, heroes like LTC Kurilla fight and bleed with courage and compassion every day in Iraq. And, "non-journalist" Michael Yon gets the kind of Pulitzer Prize-winning reports that will never win Pulitzers because, after all, he's not "one of them" and he's "only a blogger".

Agreed - out of Blogs and into News. The guy who wins the Pulitzer is going to hold it cheap compared to this reporting.

That's a loss that's going to hurt a whole lot. I pray to God that his wounds heal quickly and completely because a warrior like that is a rare being.

This is just un-freakin' believable writing. There's no one like Michael Yon.

An absolutely great story. For those interested, BlackFive has links to two memorial speeches given by LTC Kurilla--they are great: http://www.blackfive.net/main/ Scroll down to Update III for the August 23 entry about LTC Kurilla. We owe LTC Kurilla and men like him more than we can ever pay.

Thanks for enlarging those photographs. If the other photographs can be enlarged and posted without violating any of Yon's rights, it would sure be great to see them too.

Top notch. Without qualification.
Why the system consigns this to bloggers and personal is beyond me. That must be corrected.

Gotta love this:
The Kiowa swooped and banked hard in front of the car, firing three more shots through the front hood, the universal sign for "stop."

Me and a few others have been posting Yon's work for a while now. I was told to post it in the blog area where hardly anyone saw it. At the troop level Yon's reporting can not be beat. He plays it right down the middle as it should be. Even so, you get a far different picture then the one the MSM gives you. Yon belongs in the news section. I am glad he finally made it and can get some attention the man deserves. I am glad you posted it. Admin gets props too for coming to their senses.
I e-mailed Romenesko Yon's link a while ago and asked him why is it a guy supporting himself with on-line donations manages to get these stories yet the MSM with all their power, resources, and connects cant seem to make it out of the Green Zone.
I got no reply. Wonder why.......

Great read... thanks for the post. This quote got me...
"I would be the one. The one to go back and speak. A pain beyond all previous now seized me. Sweet life itself, even the desperately sought chance to tell the tale, suddenly seemed unendurable alongside the pain of having to take leave of these whom I had come so to love."
