Aug. 24, 2005 - Many U.S. intelligence analysts say they are becoming more convinced by the day that the Iranian government is involved in the arming and training of insurgents in Iraq. Others say they need more evidence, but assert that the Lebanon-based Shiite militia Hizbullah is almost certainly aiding Iraq’s anti-government guerillas.

These analysts point to recent sophisticated insurgent attacks on armored U.S. military vehicles using home-made anti-tank weapons with “shaped” explosive charges. According to a U.S. counter-terrorism official familiar with the attacks (who asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the subject), many of these home-made devices, known among U.S. bomb-disposal personnel as EFPs (Explosively Formed Penetrators), appear to be constructed according to instructions contained on CD-ROM formatted videos distributed by Hizbullah, which maintains close ties to hard-line religious factions in the Iranian government. Another counter-terrorism official said that “equipment” has also been recovered from Iraqi insurgents that U.S. analysts suspected had originated in Iran. “It is true that weapons clearly, unambiguously from Iran have been found in Iraq,” Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld asserted earlier this month.

War by proxy works, so long as policy-makers refuse to target the puppet-master. Of course this is understandable when one realizes that such targeting will engender the escalation of warfare to a much more ferocious level, and one that would cost much in terms of American lives and money. Still, at a certain point there must be either full-measures or no-measures. Half-measures accomplish little to nothing at extravagent cost.

Iran 'Supplies Infra-Red Bombs' That Kill British Troops In Iraq
Sunday Telegraph - August 21, 2005:

British soldiers in Iraq are being killed by advanced "infra-red" bombs supplied by Iran that defeat jamming equipment, according to military intelligence officials.
The "passive infra-red" devices, whose use in Iraq is revealed for the first time by The Sunday Telegraph, are detonated when the beam is broken, as when an intruder triggers a burglar alarm. They were used by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group against Israel in Lebanon from 1995.

A radio signal is used to arm the bomb as a target vehicle approaches. The next object to break the infra-red beam - the target vehicle - detonates the device.

Coalition officials see the disturbing development as a key part of an aggressive new campaign by Teheran to drive coalition forces out of Iraq so that an Islamic theocracy can be established.

Iran must dealt with a four to six massive air campaign. We should bomb them to the stone ages and destroy all their military and intelligence infrastructure. At the same time we must support the Iranian people to rise up against the Islamic terrorists regime of the Mullah and overthrow it.

However if we do this we should be ready for a much deeper oil crisis then the one we have now? I am afraid that many Americans are not ready.

I totally agree with you that Iraq is the center front of the war on terror. It is to Iraq where the terrorists from allover the Middle East are coming to fight us and it is in Iraq where we are annihilating them.
